David seemed to have expected this. He adjusted his glasses, a ruthless look flashing in his eyes. "I'm not forcing anyone. If you don't want to contribute, that's fine. But when we bring the supplies back, don't even think about getting your hands on them!"
"I'll go!"
"I'll go too!" Several married men showed admirable courage. They had elderly parents and children at home. They had to do their part.
Two convoys were formed, and David naturally went out with them personally. "Everyone, go back for now. I'll notify you in the group chat when we return. But if you want to sit back and get something for nothing, you'd better think about what you're going to trade for it."
Emily looked at her boyfriend beside her and asked in a low voice, "Nathan, we're already out of food at home."
Nathan said impatiently, "What's the rush? My dad said he's trying to find a way to send us some food. Do you want me to go out there and die?"
"No, that's not what I meant." Emily hurriedly explained herself.
But Nathan said in a deep voice, "Then what did you mean?"
Emily's face turned deathly pale, because that was exactly what she had meant.
About three hours later, the two vehicles returned with their wheels throwing off sparks. Six people had left, but only four came back.
The family members waiting for them broke down crying when they realized their sons or husbands hadn't returned.
"Was my husband caught in the rain?"
"My son..."
David said grimly, "Things outside are completely out of control. Everyone is fighting over supplies. Your husbands and sons were beaten to death by other people. They weren't killed by the rain."
Everyone exchanged glances, their faces filled with fear. But when they saw the food and water in the back seats and the trunk, their fear was quickly replaced by desire.
"I want water! I want water!" A gaunt man suddenly charged forward without caring about anything else.
David grabbed the baseball bat beside him and swung it hard. The gaunt man's jaw was nearly smashed off.
But David didn't stop. He raised the baseball bat and repeatedly slammed it into the man's head until the entire skull was crushed.
Covered in blood, David turned back toward everyone. "Who else wants to try taking it?"
Someone had just been beaten to death right in front of them. Everyone was so terrified that no one dared to make a sound.
"Listen carefully! If the men want to trade for supplies, they have to go outside and earn them. If the women want to trade for supplies, then trade your bodies." David's words completely shattered everyone's understanding of the world.
But no one could really blame David. These supplies had been bought with people's lives. Why should he share them for free?
The apocalypse had its own rules.
It was later that night when a faint knock suddenly came from the door. Jack Morrison put down the pizza in his hand, wiped his fingers, and went to open the door, though he first checked through the peephole.
When he saw that familiar face, the corners of Jack Morrison's mouth slowly curled upward. So you finally couldn't hold out any longer.
Her outfit today wasn't bad. A little white dress, delicate makeup—she was almost as attractive as that flight attendant.
When he opened the door, Jessica was standing outside. Who was still watching livestreams now? Even if she had income, those numbers were useless when they couldn't be exchanged for supplies. One of her fellow female streamers had just gone out to trade for supplies and later described the inhuman treatment she had received. Several men had taken turns with her, and in the end, she had only received one cup of water and a single Oreo.
So she had no choice but to come looking for this delivery guy. That loser definitely had plenty of food hidden at home, so she had deliberately dressed herself up, hoping the loser would give her something in return.
Sure enough, the moment he opened the door, Jessica caught a familiar yet unfamiliar smell.
It was an Orleans-style pizza!
Seeing the steaming pizza on the coffee table, Jessica could hardly believe her eyes. At a time like this, he still had pizza to eat?
"Is there something you need?" Jack Morrison asked indifferently as he opened a bottle of mineral water and took a sip.
Although she was wearing lipstick, Jessica's red lips were already cracked from dryness. As a streamer, it was normal for her to have some food stored at home, but the problem now was water. What good were instant noodles without water?
"Big brother, could you spare me some water?" The formerly arrogant Jessica couldn't take her eyes off the water dripping from the corner of Jack Morrison's mouth. She almost wanted to open her mouth and catch it.
Jack Morrison's smile grew even wider. "I actually liked you better when you were arrogant and defiant. Go back to how you were. Call me a loser."
"Big brother, you misunderstood me. I was blind and didn't recognize you." Jessica hurriedly apologized. Her original plan had been completely thrown out the window. Seduction? Who cared? As long as she could have one sip of water, she was willing to do anything.
Jack Morrison gave a long, drawn-out "Oh" before slowly lowering the bottle.
The water slowly spilled onto the floor. Jessica didn't hesitate for even a second. Acting purely on instinct, she immediately dropped to the floor and stretched out her cracked tongue to lick the water from the tiles. Jack Morrison slowly backed farther into the apartment, and Jessica crawled after him on her knees, l*****g the floor as she followed. The door slowly closed behind them.
"So 'l*****g someone's boots' really isn't just a figure of speech." Jack Morrison put the bottle away and sat on the sofa, looking at Jessica.
Jessica slowly raised her head and stared at the bottle of mineral water in Jack Morrison's hand. She could barely suppress her desire for it.
"Want more?" Jack Morrison shook the bottle slightly.
Jessica knelt at Jack Morrison's feet and nodded repeatedly. "Yes. I want it."
"Then I'll give you just a little more."
Jessica was about to get a cup, but Jack Morrison poured the water onto the floor again. Even so, Jessica obediently licked it up.
"You've polished the floor until it shines. Here's a piece of pizza as your reward." Jack Morrison tossed a slice of pizza onto the floor.
Jessica would never have eaten this kind of junk food before. She had always been afraid of gaining weight. But now, it was like a priceless treasure, and she devoured it without caring about her appearance.
"Ah, look at you. You're filthy. Go take a shower."
Jessica asked in surprise, "You still have enough water for a shower?"
"Of course. Get yourself clean. Use plenty of body wash."
Jessica immediately rushed into the bathroom. Sure enough, there was clean water. She didn't even bother closing the door before eagerly washing herself. For her, going even one day without a shower was unbearable, let alone nearly a whole week.
The sight was certainly a bonus for Jack Morrison. A woman who could become a streamer naturally wasn't lacking in looks or figure.
After her shower, Jessica finally realized that the door had been left open. She immediately closed it, and after a while, she came out fully dressed.
"Um, I'll go back now. Thank you." Jessica had no intention of simply giving herself away. Besides, this loser wasn't like those men downstairs. He couldn't force her to do anything. After what had just happened, she figured the food and water were enough compensation.
Jack Morrison smiled faintly. "You ate my food, and now you think you can just pat yourself on the a*s and leave?"
"I already did that just now. And you got to see everything." Jessica immediately returned to her original attitude. Jack Morrison seemed quite satisfied with that and pulled out a pitch-black handgun.
When she saw the handgun, Jessica froze. But she quickly smiled and said, "That's a lighter, right? Or a water g*n? Who are you trying to scare?"
Bang!
The gunshot rang out, and the motion-sensor lights throughout the entire building suddenly came on. Everyone in the residential complex was startled by the sound.
Who was that?! Who fired the g*n?!
Someone actually had a g*n!
At that moment, Jessica's face was deathly pale. The shattered decorative ornament lay on the floor.
This was the real thing.
