ZELDA I waited near Alpha Kayden’s office, pretending I had simply been passing through. I hadn’t. I’d been waiting for Sandi to come out. I watched the office door closely until, finally, it opened. Sandi stepped into the hallway. She didn’t look back. For a moment, she simply stood there, leaning against the door as though whatever had been said inside had left her struggling to find her balance. Then she straightened and walked away.
