**Sandi** I was sprawled on my bed, eyes glued to an episode of *The Walking Dead*, trying to lose myself in the chaos of the screen. But then, a sharp knock at the door pulled me out of my distraction. I hesitated, then slowly got up and made my way over, unlocking and opening it. Standing there were two women—one around my age, the other clearly in her mid-forties or early fifties. The older woman pushed past me without a word, her eyes sweeping my room with a critical gaze. The younger woman followed silently, clutching a tray. “Your evening meal,” the older woman announced, smirking slightly as she held out a package of fresh linens. “Don’t get used to the special treatment. You’re on the clock tomorrow morning. I’ve already written down your shift times. Keep this somewhere visible
