Chapter 9

1841 Words

The two of them stood in the wind, saying their goodbyes with clear reluctance. The soft, tender affection written all over their faces felt like a sharp stab to Alistair, who was watching from the sidelines. He stood alone, rooted to the spot, a total outsider who stuck out like a sore thumb in this intimate moment. Any random onlooker who didn't know the full story would have assumed Cedric was the one by Rowena's side. Alistair's chest felt like it was caught in a vice grip. A tidal wave of choking, bitter agony swept through every inch of his body, threatening to drown him completely. His eyes burned bright red. He couldn't stand to watch this gut-wrenching display a second longer. He spun on his heel to leave, but Rowena's voice stopped him dead before he could even take a step.
