Chapter 3 Ava –––––––– A LOUD KNOCK on the door jolted me awake. I’d fallen asleep reading a book about World War II, which always fascinated me. My biological mother’s ancestors, who’d been Jewish, had escaped East Berlin and somehow managed to move to America and start over. From what I’d learned, they were now all gone and my last living relatives had been my mother and Andrew. Still, I had to wonder if I had others still living in Germany.
