Ava's POV
I sat at the bus station thinking of what to do next. The life I thought I had has been taken away from me. I had already sacrificed my happiness for them, Always letting Go and taking all the hard decisions because of them. I wondered how my life would have been if I had been with her biological parents. Maybe I would have been treated with respect and love.
I took out a piece of paper from the jacket I wore and looked at the address written on it… it was the address of the orphanage home I came from. They might have the answers to all my questions It would be best to go there…..
Locating the orphanage was not so hard. The orphanage belonged to a huge Catholic Church. St. Louis Cathedral. The description on the sign board was bold and you wouldn't miss it.
The place was not like I had thought. It was so lively and no one would know it was an orphanage. All the children were so happy and as I arrived, the children were in the garden planting with the help of the reverend sisters with them. I was directed to the senior reverend sister who is in charge of coordinating the orphanage.
Sister Theresa was very nice to me. She showed me around and I felt welcomed. I immediately told her the reason for my coming. After I had told her everything, sister Teresa's answer sank all of my hopes of finding my parents.
"I'm so sorry Miss. I've only been here for two years and the only information I can give is, the information you need can only be found in the Archive room, and it's strictly open to staff, the management or the police in case of any investigation." Sister Theresa had said.
"Is there anyone that has been here for as long as 20 years, so I can ask some questions?". I asked, anticipating.
"The oldest people we have only stayed here for five years. I am so sorry we can't be of help to you" she said with a warm smile on her face. "We are so glad to have you, ma'am."
My last hope was shattered. If only I could get into that archive room. I might find some answers there, she thought. It will only take luck for that to happen….
Luckily, on my way out, I heard about a job vacancy for an assistant cook for an upcoming fundraiser. It was a great chance for me, so I applied and got the job. I was so excited. At last, the universe was finally smiling at me…
Everyone fell in love with me. Even after the fundraiser, I became a permanent staff member at the orphanage.
I was finally able to get permission to go into the archive room and was really anxious at first, but when I saw my file I was eager to look through it.
"She was found digging into the trash looking for what to eat. She is dressed in expensive clothes, but the clothes were torn. She had a scar on her face. She was brought in by some of the church members and the only valuable thing she had was her necklace, which looked really expensive. It was an emerald necklace and the letter "A" was encrypted on the back of the necklace. We named her Ava.
She is very attentive and calm. She learns quickly too. She only does little sports.
After two weeks, she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood.
I could not hold back the tears that freely gushed out of my eyes as I read. This was not just a dead end, it was also the beginning of more reasons to be sad and heartbroken. I did not know what else to do. I have no hope of finding my parents or getting my daughter back. I wanted to scream out loud, but I could not, which only made it worse.
. I sobbed in silence for what felt like forever. I've been here for 3 weeks, so I'll be able to get access to this damn archive room and get more information on my birth parents. I kept myself busy all this while, so I would think too much about what Scarlett and Neil did to me, but now I have no hope or nowhere to run to.
I took off my necklace. It was the only valuable thing I had and probably my only connection to my biological parents. As I remembered them I felt a hard lump on my throat. My tears would not stop. If only the Universe could grant my requests - I kept pondering.
"Miss Ava. You have a visitor", sister Leah said, calling me. I quickly wiped off my tears because I didn't want her to see me like that.
. "Are you there?" She called again when I didn't respond.
" I am right here!" I said, stretching my hands so she could see me. "I am trying to put these back…. Can you please give me a hand" I said.
"Sure" she helped me put all the files back in place. "The couple must be waiting. Let's get going. " Sister Leah said.
"Couple" I asked, because I wasn't expecting anyone or a couple. I hoped it wasn't who I thought it was because I wouldn't let them ruin the little life I have here….
