Twenty-six Spook woke Dani just after midnight. It was the first time in a long time she didn’t want to leave her dreams. “Why?” It came out half whine, half wail. “I’ve only been asleep for two hours.” “It’s taking us longer than I planned on and we have to be on top by noon at the latest.” “I’ll bet the sunset is lovely up there.” “Have you ever been in a thunderstorm on a mountaintop?” She lowered her brows. “I’ve never been on a mountaintop, period.” “Well, you sure don’t want to be on one in a storm.
