Pat was sitting in the corner of the Loggerheads enjoying his usual quiet pint. He’d been at the Loggerheads every night this week, and he knew it’d been noticed. He’d seen Harry’s face flatten and his nostrils flare when he realised Pat was keeping an eye on him. But Harry needed managing. He’d thrown out the wrong people a couple of times lately, and not politely; drunk enough he’d have been chucked out of any other pub himself.
Angela brought a drink over with a tight smile. ‘From the hubby,’ she said. She leaned over to put the Guinness down and he felt the firm curve of her belly as it brushed his upper arm. She was having a baby; he’d have put money on it. He smiled politely and raised the glass in Harry’s direction,
