The ice cream man plunged his shoulder deep into the freezer and pulled out the strawberry split Angela had asked for, handing it to her with a flourish. Harry juggled between his pockets and the 99 he was eating, pulling out notes to pay.
The sun beat down. The icy chill of the lolly made Angela’s head hurt, so she stopped eating and walked. The grass was pristine and the castle walls and bandstand made Angela feel posh just being near them. The flowers were arranged to make pictures and patterns.
‘It’s been a lovely day, Harry,’ she said.
