39. The words of the fairy

1742 Words
DECLAN How could I explain this? I didn't understand any of it at all. The last thing I could remember was Ichabod poisoning me with some blackish powder and then shattering my head into pieces. I felt death. I felt it come over me and consume me. At first, it was cold, lonely and quite sad. But that lasted for only a moment because the next “feeling” I had was a sense of nothingness. I felt my existence had come to an end and a painful one at that. None of that mattered right now because I wasn't dead. I was very much alive though I couldn't see anything no matter how hard I tried to open my eyes. It took me a moment to come to terms with my current state. I was alive but had lost my sight. I was blind. “Declan, how are you feeling?” A voice asked. My whole body shook as I heard the voice and tried not to appear scared. Yeah, I tried, doesn't mean I didn't appear scared. The voice was a little familiar but I couldn't remember whose it was. What I was very sure of was that it was one I had heard in recent times. “It is I, the fairy," the voice said. “How are you feeling?” Oh, the fairy? I see. “I feel alive, which feels better than anything, I guess. Wait . . . how did I get here? Sorry . . . where am I?” “You died, remember? I saved you and took your body the moment he killed you," the fairy said. *You died, remember?* Who the hell says that? This was very strange and even more confusing, but it beat dying. “Thanks for saving my life, I really appreciate it. I do have a lot of questions if you don't mind.” She went on to tell me how she had monitored me after our meeting that day. She said she watched as Ichabod killed me and then saved me later on. She gave me “a breath of life”, which was the greatest fairy gift. This was what the world had come to. No one expected a lot of explanations- we took things as they came to us. In this case, it was positive for me. “Will I ever be able to see?” I asked. “You have done so much for me already, so anything's fine.” “My dear, you are going to see, this is merely a temporary effect of the spell I used in saving your life.” She looked into my eyes, not blinking at all but still not making me feel uncomfortable. “You have a great mission ahead of you, you need every part of yourself.” What did she mean by that? Didn't know and didn't care. I had to find Shawn and the rest immediately. Heaven knows where they were. Just as I was busy with my thoughts, my sight was restored. It took me about five minutes before I was able to see anything clearly. “You can see now,” the fairy said, smiling from ear to ear. I thanked her once more and told her I had to go. “You are leaving before I tell you the one thing that you crave to hear?” Oh my goodness, I couldn't with another sad revelation. “And what is it I crave?” She drew closer to me. “I believe you would love to know how to rid the world from the demons. Am I not right?” “Yes, of course, everyone wants that. I want that but that's not possible, is it?” “My dear, it is possible. Even better, what if I tell you that there is a way to not only end all the demons but take the world to the way it was.” I laughed. What was she saying? I could hear her very clearly but my brain kept telling me it was too good to be true. Seriously? Would the world go back to the way it was? I loved me a good dream, but man, this was a step above everything one could think of. “Please tell me,” I urged her, my heart pacing as though I had just run a marathon. “I am so damn ready to do anything if there is a way- no matter how little the chances of its success is, I'm willing to do anything to make things right. When I say anything, I mean anything.” The glow went off her face and her lips became tightened. “But first, I have bad news for you but it is best you hear it and get it out of the way, if you can.” “What is it?” “Your friends . . . they are dead.” This was one thing I never understood. One would expect to hear bad news and when you did, it would still shock you so painfully as though you had no idea that it was coming. She had told me she had bad news, and deep down in that lonely place called my heart, I knew Ashley and Rochu were gone. I just knew it. I had known, in my heart, that Rochu and Ashley were gone. I felt it down in me and I tried to push it aside. I tried to tell myself that I was scared, that somehow, they were alive, waiting for me to find them. A man can dream. I took three deep breaths and locked my emotion in my heart and threw the keys away. I didn't need those feelings. I had to be strong or else my life wouldn't mean much and I would die for nothing too. I couldn't imagine how sad I would be if I died before saving the world. I would consider myself an utter failure. “Please tell me how to end the demons, that's the bit I would like to hear now.” “You will have to journey to another realm where you can get demon ash and a time ring,” she uttered, having a fixed smile on her face and acting as though she hadn't said the craziest thing ever. “What? Another realm? I'm not following," I said. I mean, who would follow on that? This kept going through all the levels of crazy. The fairy told me that ending the demons wasn't possible — in this world, at least. What we needed to end the demons was a powdery dark substance, which the witches will use to cast a spell that will get rid of the demons. But that wasn't all, was it? There was something even better. Even more exciting. In this realm we had to go to, there will be a ring which we would use to take the world to the past— back to the time before the virus. It was amazing news, wasn't it? Not only would we end the demons, the world will go back to a time before the horrible virus came on us. “What about the vampires? They will still exist?” The fairy lips puckered as they made a funny sound. “Nala is a mysterious realm, and it's known for granting the heart desire, but of course, at a difficult price.” Nala? Wow. That was the name of the realm I had to go to. Truth be told, this was a little too much to take in at once and there were many reasons so. Firstly, I had watched the innocent planet crumble on itself. It felt weird to get a solution to it all. Also, the idea of going to another realm was just mind-blowing— and not entirely in a good way. I knew I was a Supernatural, but man, it was damn too overwhelming at times. “Declan, I have to warn you, this journey will be very difficult, probably impossible. You might die, and trust me, that's not the worst thing that can happen.” First, I'm going to an unknown realm to find two items I have zero knowledge of. This couldn't get worse, could it? “Where will I see the demon ash and the time ring?” I inquired hastily. The fairy shrugged. “How do you expect me to know? I am not some god or goddess. I can only show you the way, you would have to walk it yourself.” “This is hardly a solution,” I complained. “How I am supposed to go to a realm alone and find two items that I'm very certain wouldn't be sitting idly waiting for me.” She went on to tell me that I didn't have to go alone. The portal could transport four people, but then, that was hardly any good news. Even if we were twenty, it didn't mean anything. I realised that bothering the fairy wasn't taking me anywhere. She couldn't be of any more help. She has been kind enough already. “Why won't I see you when I get there?" I asked. “With your guidance, we could actually pull this off. You can see this, can't you?” “You don't understand how these realms work. I can't go to another realm, because as many would like to disagree, fairies are of this world, not any other. Mortals, on the other hand, can move between realms, but it's never a child's play.” Did she just call a vampire/demon a mortal? The fairy handed a small glass bottle to me and told me to smash it on the ground whenever I was ready to go to the Nala. According to her, throwing the glass bottle on the ground will create a portal. “Am I supposed to say some words?” “No," she said. She took her time to explain everything once more and then she left, disappearing into thin air. Before she left, I asked her if I would ever see her again and her short reply was, “Who knows? Fate does what it does.” Now all I had to do was to meet up with Shawn and the rest and then we would discuss the solution the fairy offered to us.
