11. I warned him

1611 Words
ANNA There were a lot of things that were done when a witch died. A lot of rites to be performed—basically loads of ancient b*llshit that was unfortunately still in practice. For me, none of those sh*t mattered, they were gone. That's the one thing we can't change. Aaron, Tarin, Shane, Johnny, Devin, Franco, Cade and Lana. They were all my friends. We had gotten really close especially since the apocalypse began. Now they were gone, k*lled in ways I couldn't begin to imagine. Lana's death was the most painful. She was only twenty-one, though she looked younger. Lana was a clinge witch. Clinge witches had incredible powers to see the future but then at the cost of something quite ‘expensive'. Clinge witches couldn't lay with just anyone, they had to be careful so as not to watch their lover die. Only powerful witches and vampires could survive after laying with a clinge witch. Being that Lana hadn't been part of the witches community prior to the apocalypse, she had never laid with anyone. She was a virgin, not really out of choice but out of the fear that she would kill an innocent guy. Now, she had died a virgin. Mum gathered everyone and made sure everything was in place for the burial. There was singing and some meditation. What took the most time was the chanting, at least half a dozen books were read by over twenty people. Still, we couldn't give any of them a proper witch burial. A lot had to be skipped since the bodies of the deceased weren't available. While randomly going through dozens of books—not knowing what I was looking for—I came across a spell. This spell was very ancient. The words were so old that I couldn't understand most of them. But there was something about it. Something I couldn't really point out. I knew a lot of spells and even if I didn't know the spell, I should be able to know what kind of spell it was. In this case, I didn't. It intrigued me, for some reason, it seemed super powerful. Who knew if it could be the one thing I could use against the vampires. Yeah, I wanted to use anything and everything against the vampires. “It is pretty old, I'll have to look at it for a while," Nolan said, as he and Nika studied the spell. “Are you really serious about ending the vampire race?" Tasha inquired, jumping on the seat next to mine. Tasha always loved a good chat. Hell, she was always ready to talk about anything and everything. “That will be one hell of a task, you know?" Tasha pushing, clearly wanting an answer. “Yes, I'm ready to die trying, we can't afford to just sit on our hands like kids and watch monsters k*ll our friends whenever they like." I suddenly stood and then sat back, realising that this issue easily made me emotional. “We can't let them have their way, not this time.” “That is true, but what could we possibly do? You said it yourself, they are stronger than we are. Won't it be a s*icide mission?” Nolan cut in before I could answer. “I think I can read it, it's not really difficult now that I have given it a careful examination.” Nolan and Nika spent about thirty more minutes on the spell and then they knew what it was. “A mind communication spell? That can't be right, we know that already, don't we?” Nika shook her head in disagreement. “Not exactly, what we know is the mind communication spell between witches, this is between Supernaturals in general." I took some time to understand what they really meant and then more time to see what this could mean for my new cause. “Are you saying that with this we could communicate with any Supernatural?" “Pretty cool, ain't it?” Nolan said, wondering just what I was thinking. “So we can communicate with vampires too.” Nolan drew closer to me. “Anna, I don't know where you're going with this but I'm not sure I like it." “You want to speak with the cute vampire?” Tasha asked. “Nothing about vampires is cute, and yes, that's what I want, I want him to feel scared, I want him to know that we are coming for him and his despicable kind." Of course, he was the only vampire I had ever met so I couldn't communicate with another person besides him. The spell could work only with someone you have actually met—and touched. Nolan and the rest tried convincing me against it but I wasn't having any of it. This was the beginning of the horror I would wreak on the vampires. “Fine, since you are not listening, let's help you with the spell so everything goes smoothly." Tasha voiced, almost sounding like she was playing. We all sat, forming a circle and holding hands. The spell wasn't the easiest thing to chant as the words were old. We initially struggled with it, either mixing up the words or not putting in the right amount of energy. In time, we got it right and the ‘fun' began. I could feel the calm energy surging in my body as we continued chanting the spell. The others were concentrating their energy on me, in no time, I would be able to communicate with him. I could feel him. His presence was strong and dark. It seemed he was badly hurt because I could feel that he was in pain. I didn't care though, it was none of my business. In fact, I was going to bring more pain to him. A whole lot more! “You disgusting pig, you killed them, didn't you?” It took a while before he spoke. “How's this even possible? You are the witch I saved.” I was so furious, I almost lost contact with him due to my anger. “I will k*ll you monster, you really believe that I'm stupid, don't you? I know you k*lled eight of my friends and I promise you that I will. . . .” He cut in sharply. “That is so not true, it was all Landon, not me. I'm even locked up right now and will be k*lled eventually." “Save the lies to yourself, I only want you to know that you will d*e by my hands. And so will everyone one of you vile beasts." I cut contact immediately. He must think I'm really stupid. I know he and his fellow vamps k*lled my friends. I knew that! I thought Nolan was being too harsh when he said no vampire could ever be good. He was so right, they are cruel animals that are incapable of being anything more than vicious predators. But I would put an end to them. “What now? How do we put an end to these vampires?” Tasha said, speaking more to herself than anyone else. “There has got to be a way for us to find a spell or something that would end their kind at once," Nika added. Nolan disagreed. “We are talking about ending a kind that has existed for more than three thousand years, it's going to take more than just ‘a spell or something’ ”. Nika shrugged her left shoulder calmly. “Well, legend has it that they were created by forty-four thousand witches, so it only makes sense that they are ended by magic too." “Too bad we don't have forty-four thousand powerful witches." Nolan chipped in, his sarcasm, as usual, hitting home. “Guys, it doesn't matter what it takes, we are going to avenge the death of our friend." I let out, trying to encourage them to keep our hopes high. “Wonderful pep talk, I must say," Mum said, emphasizing the first word. She had been listening to our conversation though we hadn't known she was outside the room. I spent about ten minutes telling Mum of my plan to end the vampire kind. She listened and kept quiet as we all expressed how serious we were about the cause. Mum was very long cautious, and since the apocalypse, she had become even more cautious. And that was why it stunned me to see her support our purpose. “I think it's an amazing idea, by all means, count me in." But then every bit of excitement went off her. “But then, it's impossible to end the vampire kind, if it were, witches would have done so many centuries ago.” “Nothing's impossible," Nika affirmed. “If we put our heart into this, we could actually pull this off." Mum was still unconvinced. “Darling, this might be the one thing that's actually impossible to do. I'm afraid the early witches created a kind that is superior to ours." After saying that, she left the room. Talk about a mood killer. “As much as I would like to disagree, I think your mother is right, Anna." Tasha threw her hands in the air. “If it was possible, someone would have done so.” I shook my head stubbornly. “Do you know why we will end the vampires? Huh? We will end them because they took eight people from us—that's the edge we have. We have a purpose." Deep down, I hoped I wasn't having a fool's dream.
