Chapter 1: High School
This is a volume which contains the first chapter of White Noise. This is going to be a weekly serialization of White Noise. (These chapters are going to be categorized by arcs in the near future)
The sun was shining brightly on a Tuesday morning. The town of Hishinokami was a really pretty one, what with all the trees, lawns mowed down to the T and flowers blooming left and right. It all looked very relaxing and pleasurable to the eye. In the Hishinokami town, though, there was a house that just never seemed to relax. More specifically, a kid who just could never get even 10 minutes of free time.
“Hiacho Namakonada!”, yelled Mrs. Namakonada. “Do you want something to eat, dear?”
“No, Ma, I’m good, thanks”, Hiacho replies, not taking his eyes off his math homework. “I’ll be down in a sec”. But he knew that he wouldn’t. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to enjoy a nice, home cooked dinner with his family. It wasn’t because he didn’t want to, it was because of the sheer amount of homework they were given. The school he went to, Vision, was a school for nerds. Sure, it sounded cool in the name, and the campus was great, but Vision was a school for born geniuses. Pure and utter nerds. Not even rich jocks could apply there because the fees was next to impossible to pay on a yearly basis. The only real shot you had at getting into it was through scholarship, and he was one of the five lucky ones to be accepted. One of five from 120,000 kids.
So you can probably tell that not only was the homework harder than college, but the length was in hours. If you were given Math or Physics homework, then you had just spent four to five hours of your life doing it. Minimum. So high school was killing him, and he’d only been here for a year and a half.
But there were some good aspects about this school though. It wasn’t all bad. It was Co-Ed, which meant that both genders attended. Which meant that he saw the prettiest girls he had ever seen in his life. There were girls with large ponytails, short skirts, girls wearing skinny jeans and baggy ones, short skirts and short skirts. His favorite was short skirts. Now that was a sight to see.
As Hiacho thought about a special someone, a light buzz vibrated his desk, and he looked towards his phone, still not fully alert. He had just about completed his Math homework, so he was going to enjoy a good meal, watch some Netflix and-
Hiacho read the text again and again, not really paying any attention, until he did. He dropped his pen, and it fell onto the table with a quiet clatter. He stared at his phone in disbelief, and practically died inside. He thought that if his soul had really left his body, and if this was the end, then his life had been wasted and that he hadn’t even gotten to witness the One Piece! This was unfair. But, of course, he hadn’t actually died, he was still to witness the epic finale of One Piece, but still, this was actually really unfair.
Because the text read, “Write a 2,000-word essay on the current affairs of the world in the context of WW3”. Hiacho thought that his rage alone was enough to cause WW4, but he didn’t have the strength to be mad. Swearing at his History teacher under his breath, he sighed, picked up his pen again, and started writing his thesis.
