A normal man

1380 Words
“Oh, it seems I’ve come at the wrong time.” A woman emerged from the bushes behind them. She stood confidently, showing no embarrassment on her face despite seeing Max and Anna in an intimate position. Normally, people would pass by or turn away, but she remained there, waiting for them to finish whatever they were doing, not wanting to find out the truth. Max, hearing the voice, startled, quickly pushing his hands against the ground to help himself up. “No! … no.” He answered awkwardly, his eyes glancing briefly toward the woman. He recognised the face—the woman was Luna Vale, the beautiful secretary whose hot appearance was more well-known than her personality. Max’s smile appeared in an instant; he was relieved to see someone he knew was safe and standing before him. But before he could speak to greet her, the woman’s gaze—slightly smirking with her sharp eyes—focused on his waist, causing Max to reflexively check what she was looking at. He realised his arousal hadn’t fully subsided after being stimulated. “Shit.” He quickly turned his body, trying to hide his embarrassing appearance from the woman. The change in position caused him to lean toward Anna, who was still lying there, right in front of his eyes. Their gazes met again, and Max saw Anna silently cursing with her mouth and eyes. Then the woman stood up and slapped Max’s cheek hard. “You damn bastard!” Max’s eyes widened, and his right cheek went numb for a few seconds. “Oh…” Luna’s soft comment only made Max feel more humiliated. “I was trying to save you!” Max reminded her. He deserved gratitude for his help, not the opposite. Anna snorted at him, adjusting the loose bra she was wearing. “And taking the opportunity to satisfy yourself.” Her words left Max speechless; this time, he was genuinely offended by what Anna was accusing him of. He glared at her coldly. “If I needed an opportunity to do it, I’m sure I would’ve done it from the start, no need to wait. Besides, there was only you and me at the time.” Max stood directly in front of her. His gaze locked onto Anna’s with anger, and he no longer hid. He didn’t understand why she kept accusing him of doing something crazy in their situation, where they were barely trying to survive. It felt utterly unreasonable for him to even consider such a thing happening, especially since he was already so weak and had to prioritise protecting himself there. Seeing that Anna didn’t apologise or acknowledge her actions, Max sighed. His face turned away in disgust, and he left them. “Whatever.” Max walked across the shallow river, leaving the two women behind, not wanting to think about what they might do, as they seemed the same to him. “If she’s afraid I’ll do something to her, she shouldn’t have depended on me and clung to me, telling me to save her,” Max muttered, stomping his feet in frustration. His hand grabbed the fish he had thrown and dropped it on the rocks, then he took the water bottle he had filled. Without waiting or even looking back to check, he walked back to where they had been. He placed everything he was carrying on the ground and reached for his bag. There wasn’t much in the bag besides clothes, lotion, and a small folding knife, which he usually carried in case he needed something or for safety. He started by relighting the fire, then gutting the fish he had brought with him. When he turned around and saw the bottle of water he had brought, he was honestly annoyed. “That water won't be enough.” He hated the situation, but he couldn't do much about it due to the limitations he faced. The fish he had cleaned was already on the fire. Thanks to his experience, he knew how to choose good stones to use as a substitute for a grill. The delicious smell made Max think of the two women he had left behind at the river. Part of him worried about their situation, but his ego said otherwise. “Let them know how hard it is to survive on their own so they can appreciate it more.” Just as he said that, a bundle of leaves as big as his head hit Max from behind, spilling berries and other fruits inside. He stumbled to the side, then turned around in surprise. Behind him stood Anna, breathing heavily, her face flushed with tears and anger, glaring at him sharply. “You! How could you leave me there alone!” She knelt on the ground beside Max, grabbed his collar tightly, and shook him while crying. “You bastard! Because of you, I kept wandering around the forest, lost, while you sat here comfortably eating your meal?!” She glanced at the grilled fish, which had only lost a few pieces of meat. “How could you be so heartless, you bastard!” She looked so disappointed and hurt. As she protested Max’s behaviour, she repeatedly punched his chest with her hands. Though her hands were small, hitting the same spot repeatedly while his body was drained of energy, Max felt the pain. His face twisted in frustration; he struggled to catch her hands and pull them away to make Anna stop. When she stopped, Max stared at her intently, holding back his frustration. “You’re the one who doesn’t want to be touched, you’re the one who thinks I’m trash. So why should I be nice to you?” Anna, still sobbing, looked at Max with sadness from the turmoil she felt. Walking through the forest for two hours without finding her way back was terrifying for her, even though she was with Luna, she still didn't feel safe. It was different when she was with Max. "You shouldn't have left me here alone, no matter how annoying I am. You should have understood.” She spoke softly, her voice lacking strength. Max looked at her downturned face, which seemed both terrified and disappointed. He shifted his gaze briefly while taking a deep breath. In the corner of the area, he saw Luna sitting calmly there, drinking water from the bottle she had brought herself. The other woman seemed strong and confident, while the one he was holding now seemed so possessive and unstable. “If you try to do it too, then I’m sure there won’t be any problems, miss.” If he wanted me to keep watching over her while they were there, at least Max needed to fix his annoying attitude. “Think logically. We’re stranded here in a weak state with no place to go. Does it make sense to you if I want to force myself on you here? Right now? When I’ve almost died multiple times just to get food for us to survive?” Max stared into her trembling eyes. Anna blinked like a doll, seeming to think it over and realise it. “But you were aroused earlier; I felt it.” Those words snapped Max out of his madness. “It happened naturally!” He released her hand and stood up straight. Part of him was stunned in disbelief, staring at Anna, who spoke so innocently as if Max had deliberately orchestrated it. He shook his head. “It just happened.” Maybe Anna didn’t understand. “I’m a normal man who reacts to stimulation. Who would stay still when their body is pressed against a nearly naked woman’s body?” “Yes, that’s a sign he’s physically healthy, Miss Anna.” Luna’s voice chimed in from the other end. Max groaned, his distress worsened by Anna’s expression as if she were hearing about it for the first time. Max got up from there, pointing toward the fish. Suddenly, the forest felt too cramped for him to move. “Forget it, just eat this fish. I’m really tired today.” Luna, whose name wasn’t explicitly called, quickly approached and joined Max willingly, while Anna walked slowly and seemed embarrassed to sit right next to Max.
