CHAPTER TWO: THE ALPHA’S CLAIM

1017 Words
Luna POV The morning light hit my room like it had a grudge. I sat on my bed, staring at my wrist. The damn crescent mark was still there, glowing faintly, like it had a mind of its own. It wasn’t a dream. No way. My chest tightened thinking about his voice. Low, rough, commanding. “Go home, Luna Hale. Forget this night.” Yeah, right. Like I could forget the man who looked at me like I f*****g belonged to him. I touched the mark again. Nothing faded. Instead, it pulsed warm, weird… like it was synced with my heartbeat. “Maybe I’m losing it,” I muttered. Then. A knock. Soft, deliberate. I froze. I opened the door and… f**k. Kael. Standing there. Tall, broad, his black shirt clinging like the morning fog had followed him inside. His silver eyes… burning right through me. “What the hell are you doing here?” I asked, trying to sound calm. My voice shook anyway. “I warned you,” he said, calm as f**k. Too calm. “You shouldn’t have stayed in that forest.” “Yeah, well, tough s**t. You can’t just show up at my house!” “I can. And I have to.” His words… heavy. Like something final. I crossed my arms. “You need to leave. Now.” “I’m not leaving without you.” Excuse me? He stepped closer. My chest went stupid hot. “You’re marked now,” he said, voice low. “That means you’re connected to me. Whether you like it or not.” I laughed, nervous. “Connected? Are you serious? You sound insane.” Kael’s jaw tightened. Quietly, dangerously. “You think I wanted this?” “No,” I said. “Nobody asked” “Exactly. Nobody did. And now… the bond has started.” He leaned closer, his breath brushing my cheek. “Fate doesn’t give a s**t about what we want.” Something in his voice made me freeze. Anger, yes… but also pain. Regret. I swallowed hard. “So… what now?” “You come with me.” “To…?” “My home.” I blinked. “You mean… your mansion?” He nodded once. “It’s the only place you’ll be safe. The others… they’ll come for you. They can sense the bond now they’ll want to rip it apart.” I snorted. “I don’t even know you, and you want me to just follow you?” Kael’s lips twitched. Not a smile. Not quite. “You don’t have a choice, little one.” Oh hell no. “Don’t f*****g call me that!” He leaned closer, whispering, voice low, dangerous. “Then stop pretending you’re not scared.” “I’m not scared.” “Yes, you are.” His fingers grazed the mark on my wrist. I gasped. f*****g electric heat shot straight through me. “You feel it too?” he asked, voice rough. “I… don’t,” I whispered, even though my body screamed otherwise. His eyes darkened. Possessive, sharp. “Deny it all you want. The more you fight it, the stronger it gets.” “I’m not going anywhere with you.” He sighed, slow. Like my defiance amused him. “You’re stubborn.” “Thanks,” I muttered. “Not a compliment,” he said dryly. Then… his face softened, just a tiny bit. “You don’t get what you’ve stepped into, Luna. My world isn’t kind. If they find out what you are to me…” He paused, rough voice cutting through the air. “They’ll destroy you just to get to me.” I froze. “You’re lying.” “Do I look like a man who lies?” His silver eyes locked on mine, deadly serious. Silence. The mark on my wrist throbbed, hot. I winced. Kael’s gaze dropped to it. “It reacts because I’m close. You feel that heat? That’s the bond pulling you toward me.” I stepped back. “Stay the hell away from me.” “I can’t.” Low. Pained. “You’re mine now. Whether I like it or not.” “Don’t you f*****g dare say that!” His expression darkened. Alpha energy radiating. “No. Fate says it. And fate doesn’t give a s**t about mercy.” Before I could reply, a howl split the air. Far away… but getting closer. Kael’s head snapped to the window. Eyes flashing silver. “They’re here.” “Who?” “The ones who hunt my kind,” he said, voice rough. “And now… they’re hunting you too.” My chest tightened. “What the hell are you gonna do?” “What I f*****g must.” He grabbed my wrist, firm. “I’m taking you with me.” “No” His eyes stopped me. No room for arguing. Just power, danger, and… something else. Something I couldn’t name. “Let me go!” I hissed. “Not when your life depends on me.” Lightning cracked outside. The air thick with fear and something darker. His grip softened, just a little. “I don’t want to hurt you,” he said quietly. “But I can’t lose you either. Not again.” Not again? Before I could ask, he pulled me close. Warm. Dangerous. His heartbeat thudding against mine… too much. “Trust me,” he whispered. “Even if you hate me, trust me now.” Then… the world blurred. Headlights flashed. Thunder roared. When I opened my eyes, we weren’t at my house anymore. We were in front of a huge mansion, hidden deep in the woods. “Where… the f**k… are we?” I breathed. Kael’s eyes locked on mine, cold and beautiful. “Welcome to my world, Luna. You’re safe here.” “Safe?” I repeated. “Or… trapped?” He didn’t answer. Just s tared like I was both his salvation… and his curse. And for the first time, I knew my life was over. Or at least… nothing would ever be normal again.
