The last thing Sienna remembered was the weightlessness, the strange, overpowering sensation that swallowed her whole. One moment she was in the bookstore, standing by the ancient bookshelves, and the next—
Nothing.
Darkness surrounded her, and she felt as if she were floating in a vast, empty space. Her heart pounded, each beat deafening in the quiet void. Slowly, the blackness began to lift, and light—a soft, warm glow—poured in, illuminating her surroundings.
Sienna blinked.
She was no longer in the bookstore.
Gone were the creaky wooden floors, the familiar scent of old pages. Instead, she found herself standing in the middle of an ancient forest, the air thick with the scent of moss and damp earth. The trees towered over her, their gnarled branches reaching into the sky like twisted hands. The moon, impossibly large and glowing with a silvery hue, hung above, casting an eerie glow on everything around her.
"What... is this?" Sienna whispered, her voice trembling in the silence.
Her pulse quickened as she looked down at her surroundings. She was still holding the book, its pages now closed, but the odd sense of foreboding that had accompanied her earlier was stronger than ever.
"How did I get here?" She couldn't help but ask aloud, her voice sounding small in the vast emptiness of the forest.
But no answer came.
Her fingers gripped the book tighter, her knuckles turning white. The air was thick with magic—she could almost taste it on the tip of her tongue, like the electric charge before a thunderstorm. A sudden breeze swept through the trees, sending a cascade of silver leaves fluttering to the ground.
Instinctively, Sienna began walking, each step cautious as she moved deeper into the forest. The glow from the moon illuminated her path, but it also made the shadows dance eerily, creating shapes in the corners of her vision. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something—or someone—was watching her.
She was about to turn back, to question whether this was a dream or some twisted hallucination, when she heard it.
A low growl.
Sienna froze. The growl came from behind her, and it was unlike anything she had ever heard before—a guttural, inhuman sound that sent chills down her spine. She spun around, her heart racing.
There, in the distance, emerging from the shadows, was a creature—a massive, shadowy figure with glowing yellow eyes. It moved with terrifying speed, its form flickering like smoke. As it drew closer, its features became clearer. The creature was humanoid, with a cloak of shadows that seemed to writhe and twist as though alive.
Sienna stumbled backward, her breath coming in short gasps. Her mind screamed for her to run, but her feet were frozen in place.
The creature stopped just a few feet away from her, its yellow eyes piercing through the dark. A voice, smooth and cold, echoed in her mind:
You do not belong here, little one.
Sienna’s heart skipped a beat. She couldn’t move, couldn’t speak. Every instinct in her body told her to run, but she felt trapped, as if the very air around her had been enchanted to hold her in place.
The creature tilted its head, its mouth curling into what could only be described as a cruel smile.
The story has changed.
Before Sienna could react, the ground beneath her feet gave way.
