📖 CHAPTER IX
THE AWAKENING
I woke up feeling sore all over, but safe. The first thing I saw was the familiar wooden ceiling of the room in the pack house. I slowly turned my head and realized I was lying in bed, covered with a soft, warm blanket.
"Elana?"
A deep voice called my name. I looked to the side and saw Lance sitting on a chair next to the bed, looking exhausted. His eyes were red and heavy, like he hadn't slept in days.
"Lance..." I whispered, my voice hoarse. "Where... where are we?"
"We are back at the pack house, love," he said softly, reaching out to hold my hand. His touch was warm and familiar, sending a wave of comfort through my body. "You were unconscious for almost two days. I was so worried about you."
I tried to remember what happened. The fight... the strange man... the pain...
"Did we win?" I asked weakly.
Lance nodded slowly, but his expression was serious. "Yes. The intruders ran away when they saw we were too strong for them. But..." He paused, looking down. "They were not ordinary rogues, Elana. They were trained killers. And they were specifically looking for you."
My heart skipped a beat. "For me? Why?"
"I don't know yet," Lance growled, his eyes flashing gold for a second. "But whoever they are, I will make sure they never touch you again. You are my mate, Elana. My Luna. And I will protect you with my life."
I squeezed his hand gently. "I'm okay now, Lance. I'm here with you."
He leaned closer and rested his forehead against mine. "I almost lost you, Elana. I can't imagine my life without you. Please, don't ever risk yourself like that again."
Just then, the door opened and Richard walked in, holding a glass of water.
"Oh! You're awake finally!" Richard exclaimed, smiling widely. "Good morning, Sleeping Beauty! Hahaha!"
"Richard," I managed to smile. "Thank you... for everything."
"Eh, wala 'yun! Teamwork 'yun!" Richard laughed, but then his face turned serious. "But seriously Elana, you gave us quite a scare. Lance didn't leave this room for two days. He didn't eat, he didn't sleep. He just watched over you."
I looked at Lance, and my heart melted. He really loved me that much.
"I'm fine now," I said, trying to sit up. "I feel much stronger actually."
As I said that, I felt a strange surge of energy inside me. It wasn't just normal strength. It felt... powerful. Ancient. Like something inside me had woken up.
Lance seemed to feel it too. He pulled back slightly and looked at me with wide eyes.
"Elana... your scent..." he whispered. "It changed."
"What do you mean?"
"It's... it's more powerful. More royal," Lance said, awe written all over his face. "It feels like... like you are not just a Luna anymore. You are something more."
I touched my chest, confused but curious. What was happening to me? And why did I feel like I was ready for anything that would come our way?
