Chapter IV : THE PROMISE

523 Words
📖 CHAPTER IV THE PROMISE The ride back home was quiet, but it was a comfortable kind of quiet. Lance held my hand tightly, as if he was afraid that I would disappear if he let go. Every now and then, he would look at me with those intense golden eyes, and I could feel my heart fluttering inside my chest. When we arrived at my house, he didn't let me go immediately. Instead, he walked me inside and sat me down on the chair. He knelt in front of me and carefully examined my arm. His expression turned dark again when he saw the bruises. "They left marks..." he muttered, his voice full of anger. "I should have killed them slower." "Lance, please..." I held his face gently, making him look at me. "It's okay. I'm here. I'm safe now because of you." He sighed deeply and leaned his forehead against my hand. "I promised myself that I would protect you, Elana. But today... I almost failed. I felt your fear and it drove me crazy. I thought I was going to lose you." "You didn't lose me," I whispered softly. "I'm right here." He looked up and stared deeply into my eyes. "I know we just met. I know this is all so sudden for you. But I need you to understand something... You are not just a mate to me. You are my life. You are the reason I breathe. Without you, I am nothing but an empty shell." His words were so heavy and sincere that I couldn't help but cry. I never thought that someone could love me this much, especially someone as powerful and great as him. "I feel the same way, Lance," I admitted, my voice shaking. "Even though I am scared... I also feel happy. I feel complete when I am with you." A genuine smile spread across his face. It was a rare sight, but it made him look even more handsome. "Good," he said. "Then promise me one thing." "What is it?" "Promise me that you will trust me. No matter what happens, no matter what people say, trust that I will always do what is best for you. Trust that I will never hurt you." "I promise," I said without hesitation. "I trust you, Lance." He pulled me into a warm embrace. His arms were strong and safe, wrapping around me like a cocoon. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the moment, feeling his heartbeat against mine, synchronized and steady. "I have to go now, my love," he said reluctantly after a while. "There are matters in the palace that I need to attend to. But I will come back. I will always come back to you." He stood up and walked towards the door, but before he left, he turned around one last time. "Rest well, Elana. And remember... you are never alone anymore." With a final wink, he stepped out and disappeared into the night. I touched my chest, feeling the warmth he left behind. My life had truly turned upside down, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
