Ophelie's POV
I kept trying to know what exactly it was that had been wrong as I slipped the clothes on, making my way down to my room, one I didn't want to go over to now because I knew my stepmother would be there with Marlow and Margot, and I would rather not face them.
My thoughts were intercepted by Astrid, who stood in front of me, her hands balled into a fist.
" What do you think you are doing?"
" Playing my role." I gave an answer when she disputed.
" You aren't playing a role, you are doing too much, and you know it. You are taunting me, making sure that I get to know what exactly you are up to, and you are trying to put me in my place, aren't you?"
" Why do you think that I would ever think of you as being that worthy enough to occupy my thoughts?"
" This." She held the knife at me, my heart sank at the realization that it had been found while they were moving things. How could I have been that stupid not to get it off before they could find it?
Also, I had no idea what Loic had planned, so it was almost impossible to know that it would be found. If I had known...
" What about that?"
" Do you know where it was found? Where exactly it was found? What are you doing with a knife? In your closet and at your disposal?"
" I don't know what you are talking about, I have no clue how it got there."
She bobbed her head before retreating as she gave commands to two guards. " Bring her with me."
I was stunned at how fast this seemed to be reeling out, and I had to take a moment to think, so I took a step back. " No one is allowed to touch me. I have the Alpha's favor, and you wouldn't want me to be caught hurt in any way."
" I said bring her with me, or I will have you both hanged." The guards were at a crossroads, and not wanting what had happened earlier to repeat itself again, I had to go with what it was she wanted.
" I will go with you; I don't want to be tolled like I have done something wrong when I haven't done anything wrong."
"Good, then come with me."
I grunted, but I stalked after her, letting her take the lead to Loic's study, where he would be . I dragged in swallows, trying to think about what I was to say when we got in there because it would be difficult for him to believe that it had been planted there.
I had to think, I had to come up with something.
" Clio," I muttered, wanting to hear what she would think, but she wasn't here.
Where was she now when I needed her? When it was crucial for me to get to know her opinion? Where had she gone to?
The door to Loic's study was yanked open by a furious Astrid, who held the knife up, making sure Loic saw what she was holding onto.
" Is there a problem?"
" This," the knife clanged to the ground. "It was found in Adele's possession by the guard while her belongings were being moved, and the guard handed it over to me."
" I have no idea about that knife." It was against the rule of sanctum. I wasn't supposed to be found in possession of whatever arm, and a knife was one of them.
" You have no idea about the knife? The guard handed it over to me, letting me know that it was yours and was found in your possession, and you are saying you had no idea about it? Are you going to say someone planted it there? Someone who has a grudge against you? When you have barely been here for a week?"
" You took the words out of my lips." I answered.
She turned to me, her jawline twitching with rage at what I had just said. " Are you stipulating that I am the one who planted it there?"
" I didn't call names; all I said was someone else must have planted it there. How would I know about that? I didn't bring any of my belongings in the first place. Every single thing was offered to me by the pack, and you know that. I haven't even had an opportunity to go through them yet because I have been in Loic's bed almost every single time; I just left his study not too long ago."
Astrid took a step forward, with hands raised to strike me when I took another back.
" Enough!" Loic uttered, his voice bouncing off against the wall. " Astrid, how are you so sure that it was found in her possession?"
" What? Don't tell me you are taking her side? No, no, you can't do that."
" I am not." He explained. "All I am trying to do is get a simple answer, and you are giving me none. So tell me, how exactly did you get to know that it was placed in there by Adele in the first place?"
" A guard handed it over to me that a maid found it while cleaning, and they didn't know what to do with it as it goes against the laid-down rules in sanctum."
" Good, but how are you so sure that it wasn't planted there? Adele hasn't been here for that long, and there is no way she could have come across a knife in barely three days she has been here."
" Loic don't do this." Astrid's voice came out in whispers. She was clinging onto what she thought still lay between them.
" Don't act like you can't see what is wrong; don't do this."
" I am not being partial, Astrid. There are times when you have to know that you can't act out, and this is one of those times. Adele wouldn't be in possession of a knife. She doesn't have any need to, and that is it."
