I stood by the window, my chest tight with anger, my back turned to the bed where Marvin lay. The silence between us was heavy, thick enough to hold. I heard the mattress shift. Slowly, he got up and walked toward me. Before I could pull away, his arms wrapped around me from behind. The warmth of his body pressed against mine, sending a confusing rush through my veins, comfort tangled with resentment. No matter how upset I was, my heart betrayed me in his arms.
