Lucas
I stood before the Alphas of all of our surrounding packs and Willow. The tension was palpable. The last time I needed help I called. They knew me calling a meeting meant that this was bigger. We all lost warriors in the war against the witches, knowing something bigger was coming had us all on edge. I was trying to stall time waiting for my father to join us but he was caught up on a phone call so it seemed I was on my own. I glanced at Mason and he nodded his head in reassurance so I turned to them with a deep breath.
“I want to start by thanking all of you for meeting me today. I feel like this deserves more of an explanation than my previous request. I appreciate you all met my request for assistance without hesitation and with very little explanation. It is a true testament to the relationships between our packs. That is why I feel I can share this information with you all. I should start by explaining our previous war with the witches. We had a coven of dark witches that attacked our pack with a pack of wolves. Their goal was to kill my mate. You have all met Esme, but what you may not know is she is a hybrid. She is quite possibly the most powerful witch there has ever been. She was destined to seal a barrier between our world and the one in which dark magic draws on. Esme was able to complete this task thanks to all of your support.” I explained and paused, looking around to see if there were any questions while the information sunk in a bit before I overwhelmed them. They all sat in silence, patiently waiting for the reason for this meeting. “During this quest, Esme’s magic and our bond prepared my wolf for this fight and any other threats to our family. There are still a lot of questions as to how this happened, Willow and her coven are working to try to figure out the exact details. What we do know is I’ve evolved into a Lycan.”
Fear swept through the room at the news. Confusion and doubt swirled through their eyes. I connected my eyes with Mason again and shifted into my lycan form. I scanned the faces of the wolves around me and saw the shock on their faces. “To meet the needs of protecting my mate through this battle and what is to come, I've been blessed by the Goddess with this new form,” I took another deep breath and gave them a minute to process what they were seeing. They eyed Willow suspiciously. “It is not witchcraft, this is not something I would have chosen,” I shut down the thought before it could be spoken.
“What does this have to do with us?” Nate, the alpha of Cresent Lakes asked harshly. I knew it was fear leading his question. Fear that I needed to calm.
“The lycan families have requested a meeting that I have declined. I am not looking to follow in their footsteps,” I tried to reassure them. Though I was sure they had no idea the extent of what the lycans had done to their packs.
“No disrespect Lucas, but I don’t want any part in this,” Jordan, the alpha of Midnight Valley said firmly.
“I completely understand your hesitation, but I ask you to reconsider. The lycans will not give up easily. I am only asking for backup if it is necessary once they receive my rejection.” I said, looking at the other three alphas in front of me. I would need their warriors if this turned into a war. “If they come here, they won’t stop at my pack. I think you all know that,” I added. They began looking at each other, trying to see what the others were thinking without verbally questioning. There was no doubt in my mind if they set their sights on the United States, they would establish a kingdom here. There was a huge opportunity here for them that they had not yet explored. I shifted back to my human form to hopefully be less intimidating.
“You have the support of Snow Moon,” Mason said firmly, taking a stand to try to help me pull in the others even though I already knew I had him behind me.
“What is she doing here?” Jordan glared at Willow.
“Willow is the leader of the coven that Esme belongs to. She brings her entire coven to support our cause and I believe she is an invaluable asset. I brought her here to strategize once we know who will stand with us,” I said firmly back to him. I would not allow him to blame or disrespect her.
“Cresent Lakes will stand with you as well,” Nate declared with a smile to Willow.
“You have the support of Cold Moon,” Alpha Stephan said from beside him. I looked back at Jordan, the only pack remaining that was undecided.
“I will support you,” he glared at me just as the door opened and my dad walked in. His eyes snapped at Willow and he froze in place. He promised to compromise and learn to accept and work with the witches. The last thing I needed right now was conflict between the two of them in front of everyone.
“Father, we were just wrapping up with all of the packs agreeing to help us if it comes to that,” I said trying to draw his attention to me but he stayed locked on Willow. Willow shifted uncomfortably in her seat and looked down at the notepad she had in front of her to avoid his gaze. “I asked my father to join us today as I believe his knowledge is also invaluable to our fight,” I lied. I asked him to come in case they wouldn’t respect my position and I needed to use his relationship with them to persuade them. I cleared my throat to try again to pull his attention to me. He slowly moved toward me, carefully avoiding Willow.
“Thank you all for your continued support. I’m happy to hear you have all agreed to help us with this. I apologize for being late, I was speaking with a contact in England to try to gather as much information as possible. We are doing everything possible to avoid causing a war over this, but I will not allow the lycans to intimidate us.” He said, standing at the head of the table beside me.
“I think for now we all need to be vigilant. Speak with your warriors, and make sure everyone is on high alert. We have no idea what to expect so just be prepared. If they are looking to take over and form a kingdom here, they will be checking out your packs as well.” I said, looking around the room.
“How is the witch going to help with this?” Jordan questioned with a scowl. He really seemed to be uncomfortable with her presence.
“You will address her by her name,” my dad growled, surprising everyone in the room. Willow looked up with her eyes wide. I wasn’t sure if it was fear or surprise. Jordan clenched his jaw and looked back at my dad.
“Ok, how is Willow going to help?” Jordan seethed. “It’s not like her coven is warriors.” My dad glared at him.
“We can help shield warriors as well as heal,” Willow speaks up before anything else can be said.
“Alright, I don’t want to hold you all up too much. I think we can call it for today. I will reach out as I know more.” I said knowing I needed to end this conversation before it got out of hand. I have no clue what is going on with my dad, but I don’t need him and Jordan at each other’s throats. Willow stays seated as the alphas mutter their goodbyes and make their exit.
“Lucas, if you could leave us,” my dad said keeping his eyes on Willow.
“Dad, you promised to be more accepting,” I sighed, not moving from my spot. I was not leaving her with him.
“Lucas, I said go,” he said more firmly looking at me. I stood firmly and glanced over to Willow to see how she was feeling about this. She looked confused and I didn’t feel comfortable abandoning her. “She is my second chance,” he finally sighed, shocking me to my core.
