Day of Relaxation

4882 Words
A few days had passed, three to be specific, since the fight at Denny’s. The day after, I drove Rafa home, the entire while he stayed silent. When we finally made it to his house 40 minutes later, he had waited a bit, just sitting there, then said nothing and got out the car. I grabbed his hand and said,  “Rafa, please…just. I’m Sorry. I hope you can accept the real me. I need you, I don’t want this to end, okay. Please.” He put his other hand on me and squeezed. He smiled and simply told me,  “I’ll always be your friend.” I smiled back and watched him as he opened his gate and made his way to the front door. I wanted to believe him, I wanted to have hope in my heart that he would come back, that everything would go back to normal. But even though I knew he probably wanted to believe his own words; I could still smell the scent of a lie.   Now sitting on my bed, I tried to forget it. To stop replaying the scenario in my head thinking of different ways I could have handled it. For the first few days I kept looking at my phone, waiting for any response to my messages. Every time it would vibrate, I would run to look at the screen only to be filled with disappointment when it wasn’t them. I eventually stopped texting anyone back so they wouldn’t text me. Even falling asleep and dreaming couldn’t help because my own mind would fill my dreams with thoughts of them, of Rafael. I saw that it was already 2 in the afternoon and got up off the bed to put on a pair of jean shorts to accompany my large black hoodie. My hair was in a messy bun on my head and I slipped on my black dragon shaped slippers to walk downstairs. The house was filled with light from the outside but it still couldn’t brighten my mood. I went to the large black and white marbled kitchen and opened the fridge hoping to find something good to eat. Sadly, there was nothing but vegetables and the usual breakfast items so I closed the door and sighed. I grabbed my white coffee cup and filled it with water to heat up for my tea. As I waited for the microwave to go off, I grabbed the green tea packets from the cabinet and pulled out my phone.  “Uber Eats it is then.”, I said to myself.  I made my tea and leaned over the marble island in the middle searching for good restaurants to order from. I settled on some Chinese food and order a quart of steak lo mien with honey chicken and some eggrolls. I stood there for a couple minutes just thinking about how I should spend my time. Maybe I would keep practicing with the little magic I had, or maybe I would just immerse myself in work. I did have notes to log and sessions to write in. For now, I was just so hungry, a side effect of my ever-growing anxiety. Just as I pulled out my phone, I smelled a familiar scent.  “Well, Well. You finally came out of your cave, have you?” I rolled my eyes.  “Yes, Caleb. Even cave women have to eat eventually.”, I said. “And what are we hunting for today?”, he asked teasingly. I looked at my phone and opened up the tracker. “Well, Alberto should be here in about 15 minutes and I’m not sharing.”, I glared at him He lifted up both hands and backed up a few. “I know, I know. You were always selfish when it came to food.”, he smiled.  Caleb was the closest thing I had to a true brother. His Father, Leon, was my Dad’s Beta, the second in command. He was 24, but we grew up together since our Fathers had to be close and he would be my second if I ever took command. He taught me why being friends with guys is more fun than any girl, and he was always my body guard. He was 6ft and had a lean but muscular stature. His Mother was from a small tribe in Africa while his Father was from Colombia giving him a perfect caramel skin tone. He had dark black hair shaved in a fade and grey eyes that made all the women swoon when they saw him. He was wearing his usual short sleeve grey T-shirt and black Joggers with some black Vans. “Why are you here exactly?”, I asked him “Your Father wanted to brief my Dad on his plans for that Alpha in North Carolina. He accepted the summons and will be down here probably by Friday.”, he said walking into the fridge and grabbing a chocolate pudding.  “Do you know anything about this guy?” “Not much. His name is Zavid, he’s 25 which is still pretty young in my opinion, and he’s a quiet tough guy. His pack has a lot of wolves our age, and takes in Rogues children who don’t wish to continue that lifestyle. He’s kept his pack under the radar since he took command and I think your Dad thinks they are stronger than they want everyone else to believe.” I thought about that. An Alpha who takes in rogues was rare, and even naive. Who knows what damage they could cause from the inside?  “He’s taking a huge risk by doing that. You think he knows anything more about Genesis?”, I asked He shook his head. “No way to tell until he comes here and speaks with us.” My phone vibrated giving me the alert my food was outside.  “Hold that thought. My sustenance is here.”  I jogged to the door and opened it only to find a middle-aged Hispanic man smiling at me. I grabbed the brown paper bag from him and thanked him, closing the door. I walked back to the kitchen to see Caleb with a plate out in front of him.  “Really?”  He simply smiled and held out the plate. “Ugh fine! My god you’re such a puppy” We split the food and went sit on the bar stools on the other side of the island. “So, how are you doing with your friends?”, he asked. “They haven’t talked to me since Sunday. I’m driving myself crazy thinking about it. I keep checking my phone and hoping their names will pop up. It’s been giving me anxiety.”, I said biting into another eggroll. “I think you’re more concerned with Rafael accepting you. You’ve always had a thing for this guy, and you better hope your mate doesn’t find out about your past with him or you’ll be forced to choose and you know it.” “f**k my mate. I could care less about a guy out there probably f*****g other women as we speak.” “Like you’re doing?” “Yea…like me I guess.” We fell silent for a while “I’m your Guardian. I always try to look out for you as much as I can but you can’t keep hurting yourself like this. I know you want this normal human life, but all you’ve ever had was heart break and humans back stabbing you. You are the Alpha’s daughter and the next Alpha, you should really start focusing on that. I know it seems selfish to make you choose the pack over what you want but with what is happening you need to be able to handle it.” “I did handle it.”, I shot back at him. “You massacred those guys and you know it.”, he said looking dead at me.  “I did. I did, okay. I enjoyed every minute of finally just being free and killing those around me who PISSED me off. My entire life I couldn’t do anything when I was bullied, or taken advantage of. I couldn’t do a damn thing because pathetic humans are untouchable. I get it I have anger issues; I imagine slitting a lot of people’s throats. And it felt so f*****g good to just feel his warm blood on me.” “Aurora.”, he said calmly I looked up at him. He was staring at me intently, watching me. “What?”, I askes annoyed. “You’re bleeding.” I looked down and realized my claws had come out and while making a fist they dug into my skin. I didn’t even feel it.  “Sorry.”, I went to the sink and washed off the blood watching as the wound healed over.  “Even before this happened you haven’t been the same. You get angry easily, you don’t sleep at night, I mean even at your job you’ve told me you wanted to punch those kids sometimes. I mean you love kids. You can’t keep this up. You know what happens to wolves who start to act like this.”, he was concerned, I could hear it in his voice. “I’m not going crazy. I just wish it didn’t have to be like this. Maybe coming out to the public wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe we can finally just be ourselves, even if that means people fear us, I mean, they think we are animals and demons already.” “So become the Monsters they think we are and then be hunted to extinction. That’s not the answer and you know it. Look, I’m talking to you as a friend starting now. I know you’re upset, so let’s try to make it better. We can go for a run and then to the bookstore maybe. I’ll even buy you a Starbucks.”, he smiled.  I smiled back. Staying home and sulking won’t do me any good so I took him up on his offer. I cleaned up the dishes and went back to my room to grab a back bag. I put my phone, purse and a pair of sandals inside. My necklace hung down and I grabbed it closing my eyes. I always wore my rose gold necklace; it was a single chain that hung down to my chest. On the end was a circular flat pendant with a tree engraved in it, on the back it had the word “Protection” written in Old German. It was my Mother’s. I never took it off and even had Sabina spell so that it could not fall or break even when I was in wolf form, and it would adjust to the size of my wolf’s neck. It was the only thing I really had of hers. I walked downstairs and met Caleb at the front door.  “Alright, I got a bag for our clothes and your stuff. Let me just tell my dad we are off.” “Meet you outside then.”, he said as he walked out the door. I turned to go to my Dad’s study, and knocked on the door. Leon opened the door for me giving me a huge smile.  “Hola, Princesa.”, he said to me. He always loved talking to me in Spanish.  “Hello Leon. My dad in there?”, I asked graciously. “Of course. Come in.”, he held the door open for me and stood back for me to pass. “Hey Dad! Me and Caleb are going to the Bookstore in the local town and we will be back, if that’s okay with you both.” “Si! Caleb’s been locked in his room just as much as you, on that mierda, you call an Xbox.”, he said annoyed with his son’s actions. It made me laugh to imagine Big Bad Wolf Caleb yelling at the screen for hours, but I’ve been in Xbox parties with him and my ears still ring thinking about it.  “I’m assuming you won’t be taking your car?”, my dad said motioning to my bare feet. “Nah, figured I’d give Aegon a rest. ‘, I winked at him knowing he knew I was referring to my AMG. “Alright, don’t stay out to late though and call if anything.”                           “Thanks! See you later! Love ya!”, I yelled as I jogged out the room.  I went outside only to find Caleb already changed into his Wolf form. He was a beautiful sandy blonde. His fur was an ombre going from a dark brown at the roots to a beige at the ends. His grey eyes popped against the lightness of his fur and both his ears had brown tips. He was casually laying down with his head on his paws waiting for me, with a bundle of clothes in front of him.  “I guess I have to clean up?” He simply pushed the clothes closer to me with one paw. “Bruh!” I gave in and folded the clothes placing it in the back bag neatly. I went to the side of the house where there weren’t any windows and the hedges covered it completely and undressed packing up the bag. I usually could call on a bit of magic and change quicker but sometimes I liked the pain the change brought. It woke me up inside, reminded me of the Beast I was. So, I let the pain in, and in about 3 minutes I was a wolf. I grabbed the backpack in my mouth and walked out to Caleb still waiting.    Took long enough, even for a regular change, he said in his mind.    We could communicate with any wolf as long as we were both in wolf form, but can only communicate telepathically with each other as humans if we were in the same pack. Makes life that much easier.    Don’t worry about it. Here, you carry the bag, I said dropping it in front of him.    He stood up on all fours and shook off his fur. He stood taller than me by a few inches and grabbed the black Jan sport bag with is mouth. He turned to face the wooded area near my house and took off. The bookstore we usually went to was in a small town deep in Homestead about 10 miles from my house. The town was little downtown area that reminded those who lived rural lives in this part of Florida that there was still something called ‘Civilization’. It had its own shopping center, restaurants and movie theaters. Of course, I still went into the city to places like Wynwood and Aventura to hang out, but down here was my real home. The woods led a straight path to the out skirts of the town and from there you could basically walk anywhere.  As we ran, I could feel the muscles in my legs flexing, power emanated off of me and I felt alive. I could feel my heart beating in my chest and the smells of the wilderness filled my nostrils. I could run with my eyes closed and probably never hit a tree, and with the help of pack magic we be invisible or at the most seem like wild dogs running around. I felt the dry grass under my paws and could hear Caleb’s footsteps keeping pace behind me. I let the wind brush over me, visualizing that with every gust more and more of the pain and anger flew off of me. I visualized the blackness that had been developing inside me for so long pouring out and away, leaving behind only the good and pure. I could never take away all the blackness that surrounded me, but I could at least try to keep it away for now. We slowed our pace once we started to smell the scents of the town; burgers, humans, and my personal favorite chicken alfredo. We trotted to a few bushes nearby where he dropped the bag in front of me and turned to face away from the bush. I changed back and took his clothes out dropping it behind him.  “There you go.” I went behind the bush with the rest of my stuff and starting to get dressed. I felt the tingle in the air as he changed as well and heard him rustling to get dressed.  “You decent Ma’am?”, he said in a French accent.  I walked out from behind the bush dressed in my shorts and sweatshirt from before with my plain black sandals.  “As ready as I’ll ever be.”, I said putting on my backpack He gave me his arm, and I interwind mine with his as he led us in the direction of the town. We came out from the woods into the back-parking lot of the pizza joint at the edge of the town. The way it was set up was about 3 miles worth of road going down with shops on either side and the mall dead set at the end of it. We walked down on the right side where the bookstore was, about a half a mile down. The bookstore I went to wasn’t the usual Barnes and Nobles. It was a Wiccan and Magical store of sorts, named Athos which was run by Fae. We walked inside and felt the pulse of magic the shop carried.  Caleb shivered, “I don’t know why you like this store so much. All the dark vibes in here gives me the creeps.” I rolled my eyes and continued to the Witchcraft section towards the back. He was right the artifacts and Wiccan items like sage and crystals gave off a weird vibe, even for Humans. Yet, the Fae who ran it loved white and light magic more than anything. “It’s the only bookstore with actual mojo behind their stuff. Hence, why I have so many crystals and incense. You know I love magic…plus I can summon a few things myself.”, I said winking at him. It was true, the little magic I did have I usually didn’t show it off, but most of the books held simple real spells. As I picked up a black leather book titled “Tails of Underhill”, it felt like I was almost drawn to it, then I sensed a presence behind me. “You know you can’t sneak up on me Tilly.”, I said turning around. In front of me stood Tilly, a pale white girl with silvery ice for hair. She was about my height, and looked to be my age but in reality, she was around four hundred. She’s the daughter of the Fae that owned Athos and occasionally helped me practice magic, she herself wrote most of the spells amongst these books. She smiled and her eyes glowed pale blue, she was stunningly beautiful in a weird way. Most people would just assume she was Albino, but the Fae usually had unnatural beauty, and if they didn’t like Gremlins, they used Glamour to disguise themselves to look however they wanted. This was her natural beauty and most people liked it.  “I know but never hurts to try. Underhill? Mhm, not your usual choice of book.”, she said coming around and taking the book from me. “I was just looking Tills. What’s new?”, I asked her smiling back.  “I’ve been wanting to show you the new Wiccan spells we got in yesterday! We also have these new lavender scents that will calm any soul. Speaking of, I sense way too much bad energy coming off of you. Care to talk about it?”, she said dragging me to the section Wiccan section.  “Might as well, I’m sure you would enjoy the story anyhow with your crazy self.” “Aww! Me? Crazy? Oh, you flatter me!”   For the next hour we sat on the floor and she showed me all the new spells she had come up with, along with all the new crystals and décor they recently got. I told her what happened and how nobody has contacted me since and even about the recent developments with Genesis. She was still Fae, and it affected her as well. Soon, Caleb got hungry and went to get us some of my favorite chicken alfredo from the Italian restaurant down the street.  “Alright, now that he’s gone how about you tell me what else is going on?” I looked at her puzzled, “What do you mean?” “You know I can sense the uneasiness on you right? Not only that but I really am getting negative feelings from you. Something is off, so speak.” “I don’t know Tilly. Even before the fiasco, I’ve been feeling off. Everything sets me off, and I’m usually calm headed. Sometimes I just look at people and imagine my claws in their neck, or tearing out their heart and watching as they die. It’s like my wolf even fears me at times. Not even that but I can feel whatever little magic I have growing ever so slightly. Then when this happened, it’s like I didn’t care about being discrete or even protecting my friends. I wanted them dead, and when I was covered in their blood it felt so good…. almost orgasmic, I wanted to drown myself in it.” Thinking back to it I could feel my fangs growing and I knew my eyes were glowing. She took my hand and I felt her power wash over me and calmed down.  “I think it may your Fae blood coming forth, even I can feel it now. We don’t know what your Mother’s Fae lineage is so it’s impossible to be exact, but blood thirsty thoughts are never a good sign. My best guess is as you grow older the magic you have will start to increase. My Father and I have spoken with your Father many times and also assured him you will remain a wolf, but if your Fae side comes out in an aggressive manner, we could help control it.” “That book, the one about Underhill. It’s like it called to me, like I knew it was right there.” She immediately stiffened. “Underhill is equivalent to Purgatory, except it’s for Fae. It’s ruled by an original Fae Lord, Noir, and his daughter Freya. Not only do the Grey Lords send Fae to powerful to be exiled there, but people use to make bargains with Noir and in exchange would have to remain in Underhill for an amount of time or give something to him. If they survive during their agreed upon time, they are free, if they don’t, their essence will still be trapped there for eternity. It’s feared by all, and is said to old beings we don’t even know about yet. It’s no place for a little wolf to be thinking about Aurora.”  I knew she was trying to lighten the mood but I couldn’t help but shiver at what she has said. “I don’t think I even what to think about that.” She got up and walked to the back. When she came back, she had a necklace in her hand and handed it to me.  “Here. It’s white quartz that I spelled. Almost like a dream catcher. You don’t always have to wear it but keep it near, it will absorb any negative ‘mojo’ from you. It’s also something to help you concentrate on when you’re stressed. Besides that, if you think your magic is gaining power then maybe we should start thinking about teaching you to use it a little.” I smiled at her. Fae were not able to lie, so I knew everything she said was true but even so I trusted her.  “Thank you. I’ll think about. I don’t want to go stirring things up though”  “I get it, anyways your friend should be back in about 10 seconds so put a smile on that face.” I laughed at that, and on cue Caleb walked back in. He brought my food along with a calzone for himself and a tiramisu for Tilly. We ate and talked for a bit more and once the clock hit 7, we decided to leave. The sun was going down and I knew my dad wouldn’t want us to be running around in the dark so I ordered an Uber for us. I packed my bag with the new books I bought, although she insisted it to be on the house, and the incense I decided to try. She also recommended I sweep the floor of my room and mop it with a spell wash she gave me. She then said to sage out the room and that should cleanse the air of any negativity. When our White Volvo pulled up, we said out goodbyes and left. The car ride was pretty quiet, with Caleb and I texting each other how he thought the driver was attractive. I watched as the trees zoomed by us and eventually, we pulled up to my house and got out.  “Thanks Caleb. It really helped to go out today, I really do appreciate it.” He smiled back at me and pulled me into a hug. My face squished into his chest and I just had to laugh at the thought of it.  “Stop laughing loser. I would do this every day with you if I could. You mean the world to me. You shouldn’t worry about those Humans of yours. If they really appreciated you, they will talk to you again, and if they don’t, they didn’t deserve you in the first place.”  “You know how to make a girl feel important”, I laughed “You are important. Never forget that. Come on, we better get inside. I’m sure both out dads are waiting for us.” We walked inside and sure enough both our dads were there to greet us. We were home pretty early so they had nothing to complain about. I said goodbye and waved to Caleb and his Dad as they went home.  “How was your day?”, my Dad asked as he closed the door behind them.  “Pretty good actually. Got some stuff from Tilly so I’ll be busy all day tomorrow doing that, and I even got some of that chicken alfredo I love so much.” “That’s good, more food for me tonight then. Louisa cooked burgers. Get to bed early, you have work tomorrow.”, he said making his way to the kitchen. “I know! I know! Don’t eat too much Old Man.”, I yelled back as I went upstairs. I could hear his laugh echo though the house. That was Us, my loving Dad and I.  I went to my room and turned on the air conditioner, and started to undress. I took the necklace from my hoodie pocket and placed it on my dresser. Putting on my pjs, I climbed into bed ready to just sleep, but went back to get the necklace and place it under my pillow. I figured I would shower in the morning, and wrapped myself in the plump bedding. I relaxed, remembering how good it felt to just be running free as a wolf, and eventually sleep over came me.
