A day after Makie’s call, Rico lifted his hand to knock on Vance’s front door. He heard a sharp bark, then a deep growl, and smiled to himself. As an early-warning system King was exceptional, although he had the feeling Vance already knew he’d come onto the property. He’d spotted one of what he figured were several motion sensors set in strategic places on the house and fence. They were well concealed, unless you knew what to look for, which he did. It helped, of course, that he’d been the one to deliver them to Vance, along with everything else, a couple of week ago.
