While Matt was busy roasting a chicken feet which would actually be the last food he'll be eating in the apartment given to him,
Suddenly, a particle of dust entered his eyes, causing him to howl in pain.
"Heck, what's happening to my eyes?"
As he scurried around trying to wash his face in the basin, he mistakenly cut himself with a knife thereby drawing blood out of his hands.
"Gosh, why do the world hate me so much!"
He scurried around the kitchen as he hope to get a cup of something that contains water but while doing this, he touched a cylinder and thinking that it contains water, Matt poured the contents of the cylinder on his face.
Unfortunate for him, his body started getting itchy and like a gas explosion, his body caught fire. What amazed him was that, his eyes was opened up and he could see that the fire wasn't doing any harm to him.
"What in the name is this. I'm on fire and yet I'm not burning! What trick is this?"
Seeing his body perfectly fine was making him wonder what poured on him. He bent low and saw that the cylinder that his parents gave to him was already opened. He wasn't able to see what the contents of the cylinder was, so he didn't get to know what poured on his body.
"Why does my head hurt so much?"
After seeing that his body didn't get burnt and the fire had already disappeared, he went towards a mirror and what he saw shocked him.
"Why am I like this?" Matt shouted. His appearance was like that of a demon. With a scaly skin and a red, ugly skin he looked so scary. And while he was busy observing his new appearance, a system notification appeared above his face.
"Demonic Vampire System? what in the name is that?"
As he continue reading the notification, he was shocked when he saw the system mentioning his name. But something clicked in his mind, he was happy that at least someone knows his name, unlike when he was at school. They all call him orphans, including the teachers also.
"What is this. Who is showing me the tabs of a computer."
Matt shook his head to the left and right but still, the system notification remained still above his face. He closed his eyes thinking it was only his imagination but even while doing that, he could still see the system notification tab.
"Or perhaps it is trying to talk to me. Maybe it wants to reveal a secret to me?"
Matt proceeded on reading the system tab as he looked downwards and the system shifted downwards.
"Are you kidding me. Two whole spicy chicken. Who's gonna eat that. I feel like laughing." Matt said laughing but then he came to think of it. Could it be that he is the owner of this system. Could it be that what he often read in novels about people gaining systems and having a superhuman power is now happening to him? Well, there's one way to find out.
After checking out everything that the system had to offer, Matt had to just think about closing the system and it did. When he thought about opening it again, a screen would immediately pop up in front of him.
"It seems like I could get an ability with this system."
The only thing was that, Matt had never heard of a system granting people abilities. But all in all, he's grateful that he have something. It is better than buying ability books and learning abilities that are difficult to know in months.
The book Matt was referring to are called ability books and they were designed to be learnt manually. It wasn't something that you could pick up and instantly understand how to use.
He proceeded as he accepted the fact that he now have a system, and with that being good news, he planned to test out some things.
"Fire, fire, come on!" Matt said as he threw the palm of his hands forward.
"Ok next… Water, water, out!" Matt did the same again but there was no result.
After trying out many different things and all the abilities he had seen before, it turned out he was unable to perform any of them, and he felt so useless.
"What the hell is this useless thing. Is it really just a system ability. While can't I have something as interesting as the abilities of the brave heroes of our world?"
It seems like the joy and excitement he had a few minutes ago, had been diminished into thin air. The system was all a failure.
"Or perhaps it's not a failure." Matt remembered a novel he once read containing a character with a dragon system. The character started with his system by thinking of it as a game. He would complete the quests given to him and by successfully doing so, he would be rewarded.
Matt thought that maybe if he completes the quests that the system gives to him, he could gain rewards and maybe he could have the chance of getting an ability. Now his focus is on how he would complete the quests given to him and someday, an ability will be given to him. Instead of buying those costly ability books, he would rather face this system just like a character did in a novel he read.
Usually, ability books were based around one ability. It was important for a person to select their first ability book because a regular human body would only be able to perform one ability attribute. If you got telekinesis as your first ability, you would only be able to get other abilities related to this attribute. This was the same for water, and so on.
Mia went towards his already fried chicken. It was just a single chicken and the system had requested for two whole chickens. Thank goodness, he had a chicken in his fridge. He always get these chickens twice in a week so he couldn't say he's not eating well.
He fried the second chicken and by the time it got fried, he had already ate the first chicken.
"Hmmm, yummy."
He took the second chicken that has been cut into pieces. And within five minutes, he had cleared the chicken.
"Wow, I feel like I could continue."
But his stomach started grumbling in pain and it seems like he needs to visit the toilet.
Just at that second, a new notification message had appeared.
Suddenly, a loud knock could be heard at the door. The knock was so loud that the door almost collapsed from the way it was banged. Curious to know who the person is, Matt quickly went to open the door, he didn't care about the stomach pain he have as he can't keep the person outside waiting.
As he got closer to the door, he recalled his appearance being like that of a demon, and if the person outside had to see it, who knows what will happen but Matt had already opened the door and the person standing in front of him was a large, muscular, bald-headed man wearing a green military uniform. There were several stars on it and his name written just above his Chest. 'Seargent Leo'
"It's time for you to head to the Military School boy."
