Dave’s POV

10:00 PM

I am sitting in front of my laptop inside my study room. Trying to do some research about the chocolate industry in Russia. I realized that I need to take this seriously. This is the chance that I am waiting for. To prove my worth to them. Suddenly a message popped up on w******p. It’s Lisa. The girl from the Castro Clan who dad wants me to marry. She is brilliant in the business world and has solid connections. Dad thinks that she is the one who could add up to my net worth.

“Hi, Dave! I’m at Jack’s pad, like to have a drink?” Seemed like she is feeling hot and needed a partner. She always sends me signals like this but I don’t feel like being with her tonight.

“Hey, I’m not feeling well right now. Let’s do it next time…” I replied back. She didn’t reply anymore.

Then I saw a tagged photo on i********:. Upon checking it, Lisa sent me a phot of her with some hunk in the bar. I just laughed at it, without feeling any jealousy.

“What a girl.” I said to myself. Then I remembered Candy. I felt sad for her. From how she risked her car this morning, I felt that she is dedicated to her work. But what will happen to her now? What if she loses her medical license? Many things came into my mind.

Wait, is this me? Worrying about a girl? Nah! I don’t think so. Grandma is the only woman I worry about, I told myself.  

Then I just found myself searching for social media posts about United Medical Hospital, Candy Park, etc. I saw her social media account. She looks beautiful in her doctor’s gown. Even without make up, she is sparkling.

“Wow! I shouted with glee” I didn’t know why I got hooked up with her in just one sight. I didn’t get contented. I kept on searching more information about her ignoring all the negative right ups I see. I saw how she devoted herself to the hospital, photos of her in many outreach activities and free-clinics from all over the country. She worked in many remote places and volunteered to give service to poor people. I think that I am liking her more. Then I saw some photos of her with the male doctor. He seemed to like her a lot but she doesn’t seem to like him. “Yes!!!” I told myself. “Wait, am I expecting to get a chance?”

“Tok, tok,tok” I heard a knock at my door. It was my dad. I closed my laptop, I don’t want him to see me stalking a stranger.

“Dave, let’s talk.” He said as he sat on the sofa in front of me. I stood up to go to him. We sat face to face.

“I used my father instinct this time. That’s why I am sending you to Russia. Please don’t fail me. This is the only way I see to prove to the board how capable you are. I hope you know what I mean.” He said.

“Yes, dad. But what about grandma. She would not want me to be away.”

“Do you want to take her with you? We can get a caregiver for her there so you will not have to worry. The season is not yet winter so she can survive the temperature.”

“That’s a good idea, dad.”

“And one more thing, I want you to announce your engagement with Lisa before you leave and marry her when you return just before I transfer the company fully to you. This is the only way to cement your presidency.”

“What’s the rush, dad?” I asked him. He is not like this. This is the only time I see him acting like a dad to me.

“I’m tired now, son. I want to live the next years of my life without worrying about many people. I want to worry about myself and the family this time. Just that.” He said with a faint sadness in his eyes. This made me agree to his will. Except the marrying part.

“Okay, I will do my best to succeed in Russia but dad, about Lisa…”

“Just try, son.” Then he stood up and left.

I went back to my laptop and Candy’s face appeared as I opened it. My heart leaped for a reason that I cannot explain. Then I clicked, “add friend”.
