Candy's POV “Beep, beep, beep.”  The honk of the car behind mine brought me to reality. The green light is up and I need to move. I made a U-turn and to my surprise, the traffic is pretty bad. Then I heard my phone rang. I know it was my secretary.  “Doc, where are you? The patient is here and is in extreme pain. How long will it take before you come? My secretary was panicking. I honestly don’t know what to do. “I am trapped in a traffic jam. I will find a way. Call a reliever and take her to the E.R. now.  I said firmly. But inside me, I was really worried. Think…think…think…I told myself. I remembered my friend, Sarah. Yes she could possibly help. I dialed her number frantically, after 8 rings she picked up. “Sarah, help. It’s an emergency.” I said right away, without giving her a chance to speak. “Why? What’s wrong? She asked worriedly. “I am trapped in a traffic jam near the intersection of Pearl and Opal drive. You need to pick up my car. I will leave it here. I have an emergency patient. I need to be at the hospital in 10 minutes. Please, please! I pleaded. “How can I get your car keys?” She asked. I frantically searched an answer from my very smart brain as my eyes suddenly got interested in the other cars trapped beside mine. I checked out the car from my left. I saw a man smoking a cigarette looking cool despite this situation. X. Not him. He might just ignore me, thinking how crazy I am. Then I looked at the car on my right. A sophisticated lady looking fab while putting lipstick and checking her pretty face on the mirror. X. She might just shout at me and shove me away for disturbing her beauty routine. Then I looked at my rear mirror to check out the car from behind. It was the one that honked at me while I was daydreaming. An old lady is seating on the passenger seat. She looks kind and she is the one. I’m sure of it. “Sarah, I got an idea. I will text the plate number of the car from where you could get the key.” Then hung up. I took my car key, ID, bag and phone then left my car. I went towards the old lady and softly knocked on her window. She opened it widely and smiled sweetly. “Good morning, Ma’am.” I politely greeted her. I pulled out my ID to show her my identity. I am Candy Park a doctor from the United Medical Hospital. I have an emergency patient and I need to rush to the hospital. Can I leave my car key to you? My friend will pick it up in 10 minutes. “Candy? I want candy. Please give me.” She said sounding like a five year old kid begging for candy. I felt the world fell on me when I realized that she has Dementia. How could the driver leave her alone in her situation? I felt my head throbbing because of stress and disappointment. I held my head and slowly moved away from her car. Then I heard a thud, a sound of a car door. I looked back and saw a man’s figure, the driver’s. He was talking to the old lady. I was glad he came back for her. Then I saw myself walking towards his direction and was already knocking on his window. After 4 knocks, he slightly opened it, making me feel unwelcomed. “Sir, please help me. I said as I held my ID close to the car window so he can see who I am. I have an emergency patient and I need to leave now. My friend will come and pick up my car in 10 minutes. Can I leave my car key to you? I asked him…no I enforced him. Without waiting for an answer, I slipped the key to the small window opening and run away. All I could hear from behind was the man’s voice shouting, “Are you crazy? Come back here.” I could not even look back   because there is something about the sound of his voice that calmed me and made me feel that I can trust him.
