Chapter 48: Blind Devotion
(Gabriel's POV)
Her stormy grey eyes bore into mine as I worked to keep my expression steady. I could feel the weight of her unspoken thoughts lingering in the too-quiet space between us.
Crystal’s lips were slightly pursed, a clear sign that there was doubt clouding her mind. I had to tread lightly.
“That scent,” she began, her voice unsure but edged with suspicion, “it wasn’t familiar. You haven’t been anywhere strange, have you?”
I didn’t hesitate as the words rolled off my tongue, calm and measured.
“It was nothing to worry about. I encountered a pack healer while receiving treatment for the scratches,” I explained, gesturing subtly to the faint marks left by Sarah’s earlier attack.
