The next morning was a harsh wake-up to reality. Exhaustion clung to me like the remnants of yesterday’s rain, heavy and damp, weighing me down. My body was healing, but the ache in my chest, the rejection and humiliation from Alexander—those wounds were far from closing.
I clutched the business card Alexander had given me the night before. James Hardy, Stone Pack’s Gamma. I only hoped he could do something to save my father.
