----Mate----
***Arsen's POV***
Getting up in the morning, the first thing I could even think about was Sophia's beautiful golden eyes. She was just a ray of sunshine in a field of darkness.
Onyx and I knew from the moment we laid eyes on her that she was going to be ours. She would be a beautiful wife, Luna, and mother to our pups.
Getting ready for the day, a mind linked opened from Will.
"Alpha, Christine has disappeared. Her mother last saw her three days ago and we haven't been able to open up a mind link to her."
"The florist's daughter? Weird. There have been so many disappearances lately but she is one of ours. We will need to investigate this further. I'll go into town today to see if I can find any clues." I closed the mind link before getting my boots on and running out of the mansion to investigate.
Seeing the florist's shop, I went in to talk to the mother. Seeing her completely busying herself, I gritted my teeth. I knew that behavior all too well as another girl had gone missing from our pack a year ago and her parents did the same thing. We never found any clues to the first disappearance.
After speaking to her, I found out that the girl had been dating Kieran Lugosi. He was some hotshot in this town that all the girls seemed to fall all over. He was powerful as he had money, much more than everyone in this town combined, including us. He was nothing but a rich, womanizing pretty boy to me.
"I will do whatever I can as an Alpha to investigate this." I nodded, placing a hand on her shoulder.
I left shortly after, determined to find more clues regarding Kieran. We found out that he had a rather large building near the end of town and that he had a woman assistant with bright red eyes and fiery red hair. She seemed very protective of him and seemed to be especially thorny towards the women Kieran dated. She seemed like a suspect.
Finding the resolve for myself to find out more about this woman, I took out a notepad to take notes.
As I stopped to write, the screeching of tires broke me out of my concentration. Gasps and yelling of “watch out!” “Run!” came from many of the people nearby.
Looking up, my heart sank as I recognized the raven haired woman, frozen still in fear in the middle of the road.
Seeing the car barreling towards her made my breath hitch in my throat. Dropping my notepad, I started to run towards her. I needed to reach her. I couldn't lose her now that I just found her!
Judging the distance between Sophia and myself, I summoned more strength to run even faster.
"We won't make it in time! Our mate will die! Let me out, please let me out!" Onyx whined as I tried to calm him.
"We can't blow our cover!" I hissed at my inner wolf , desperately rushing towards her.
She stood there, wide-eyed and terrified as the car tried to stop. The sound of squealing tires echoed through the town.
To anyone around, it was obvious the car wasn't going to stop in time.
"She's going to die! Our mate!" Onyx howled in my head as I clenched my fist.
Quickly looking around, I saw too many people around to shift. I felt helpless as I saw her but she was going to die right in front of me.
I heard her scream. I felt my heart breaking into a million pieces as I saw the car desperately trying to stop but was only a few feet away from her. The collision was imminent.
“SOPHIA!” I screamed with pain in my voice, reaching my hand out but I knew I wasn’t going to reach her in time.
Her wide golden eyes turned to look at me as tears slowly fell from her eyes. My heart shattered all over again.
“NO! No no no!!! Please Sophia, please run! Please goddess, protect my mate!” I begged and pleaded.
Then, I felt a shock push me back and a bright golden light came from her direction. Squinting my eyes, I couldn't see her. The whole area was enveloped in golden hues and luster.
I looked around at everyone and noticed they were all frozen in what they were doing. Looks of fear and shock plastered on people’s faces and others were stuck mid run. What was going on?
My arm moved as I realized that I could freely move when the others couldn't. I rushed over to her as the golden light started to dissipate.
Gasping, I saw her on the ground. Kneeling down, I checked her pulse to find it faint. My heart was in the pit of my stomach as I examined her.
"Did the car hit her? No, no, no… NO!!!" I yelled as I picked her up, cradling and holding her close; sprinting to a safe area.
Just then, life resumed. The car screeched to a halt; the people turned towards the sound as if they forgot that Sophia was about to be hit by the car. The driver looked confused as to why he was stopping suddenly and got out to see if there was anything out front of his car before getting back in and driving away.
"Are you okay? Wake up… please!" I brought her to a quiet alley. Checking her for wounds, I was shocked that it seemed that she wasn't injured at all. Her chest raised up and down softly as a wave of relief washed over me to know she was at least breathing.
"Our mate… OUR MATE!! Is she okay? Please let her be okay!" Onyx howled as he begged to be let out. I refused as I gently tried to shake her awake.
"Please, wake up. We need you." I softly said as I checked her pulse again to find out it was a bit stronger. She was alive! She must have passed out.
I picked her up and carried her bridal style to my mansion to care for her when she woke up.
