Becca
I was so focused on what I was researching that I didn’t notice Lina come into the office. She had to wave her hand in front of my face before I noticed her.
“Oh hi,” I said
“Too focused, let me guess, it’s research right?” She said and I nodded
“I knew it so what have you found?” She asked
I contemplated whether to tell her about what I found or not, what if she steals my idea and reports it instead, I didn’t fully trust her yet.
“I only found a similar disease but it was contracted easily unlike this present illness,” I told her, it was partly a lie and a truth.
“Wow, I would do research too when I get home and report it to you,” she said with determination. And I felt guilty that I didn’t tell her the whole truth but I shrugged it off.
“So how are the patients?” I asked her
“Fine not much stress, my fields work,” she said and cracked her knuckles
“That’s not ladylike,” I said jokingly
“I know I like doing it,” she said and I laughed and shook my head before closing my laptop
“That’s enough research for today,” I said and stretched.
“You didn’t sss many patients today,” Lina said and I nodded
“I know right, it gave me time for my research too, not that I’m happy but it was a side benefit” I replied her
“True,” she said
I yawned, “so tired,” I said and Lina chuckled
“Once you get home you have to rest you know,” she told me and I nodded.
“You had many patients today,” I said and she nodded
“Tiring” she replied and I laughed
Lina rested her head on the desk and I took out a pen and book and started writing down the results of my research.
Instead of me writing as I was searching, I was so engrossed in the search that I forgot to write. I wrote key things from the research with meaning in front of them in case I went back to it, I wouldn’t be confused.
It was up to four pages I wrote.
It looked like Lina was sleeping, I rubbed her head. I still felt guilty that I didn’t tell her the truth about what I found but I still had trust issues.
I was tired too from my research, my back was sore from bending, even my neck. I checked the time and it was almost four o’clock.
I rested my head on the desk and my mind thought about Dax. I wonder what he is doing now. I remembered our movie date which wasn’t an actual date but I’d take it like that.
I’ve had a good time living with Dax so far. Eating together, and talking, it was memorable. Kade was also enjoying his stay but he didn’t have any friends of his age.
No one to play with. I sighed, he couldn’t continue playing with us, adults. He needed to mix up with his age mates and socialize. Kade wasn’t a shy kid so I don’t think he would have any problem socializing.
He was a good kid.
Lina shook her head and woke up.
“Did I sleep?” She asked and I nodded
“Ugh, why did I choose this job?” She complained
“Maybe because you’re a kind soul who likes helping people,” I told her
“I guess,” she said and smiled at me. “What’s the time right now?” She asked me, I checked the wall clock and it was half past four. So I had been thinking for up to thirty minutes, ‘wow’ I thought to myself.
“Earth to Becca,” Lina said and I laughed
“It’s half past four” I replied and she groaned, “just a little more time and you’ll be home,” I told her and she nodded.
“You would be a really good sister, you know,” Lina said
“Thanks,” I said
“No problem, you’re like a sister to me already,” she said and I felt special for what she said.
I was already like a sister to her, no one had said that to me before, none that I can remember.
“Awwn thank you, Lina,” I said and she smiled at me
“I’m happy to be your big sister,” I said and she smiled at me.
Time went by and it was time to go home, I said my goodbyes to Lina and she looked so happy to finally be going home. She was really tired so she would need to rest and so would I.
I went to the window side before going to pick up Kade to go home, I saw a familiar figure talking to some men before entering a car, I caught a glimpse of his face and it was Dax. For some reason, I was tempted to go over to him but I remember I had nothing to say to him so I noted to let him be.
"Becca" I heard Dax's voice call me from a distance and as though I didn't already notice him, I turned towards his direction feigning shock.
"Alpha Dax…hey. Hi. What brings you here?" Okay, this was not too much talk for someone who is surprised right? I mean, doesn't a shocked man stammer at a loss for words?
"You could say I'm sightseeing," he said, tucking his hands in his pocket. The beautiful yet devilish signature smile of his adorned his face.
I scoffed.
"That's below the things you hate doing, so out with. What brings you here?" I asked, this time sounding more like I wanted to know the reason why he came down here and why he had asked me to come over.
"I'm glad you're taking notes about my hobbies." He said and his smile broadened.
"Well, seeing how much you are putting to make us work, the least I could do is take note of the things you like and don't like, right?"
"Don't sweat it."
"What do you mean?" I asked, arching a brow in confusion.
"That's not the least thing you could do to make us work" the playful smirk on his face disappeared and now he was looking like a father that was going to punish his child.
"What do you mean, Dax?"
