Alaric I woke to pain. It wasn’t ordinary pain. It didn't feel like the kind that came from muscle strain or an old scar. This was a searing, stabbing heat that tore right through my chest, so fierce it wrenched me from sleep with a violent jolt. I sat up instantly, my breathing ragged, one hand clutching at my chest as though I could dig out the fire burning there. Before I could make sense of it, Frite’s voice thundered inside my head, frantic and full of fury. “Get up! Get up!” he roared, pacing in restless circles within me. “Something’s wrong. I can feel it. Our mate is in danger, we have to go save her!” My heart stopped cold. “Kelly’s in danger?” “Since we haven’t marked her yet, I can’t be sure,” Frite growled, his voice vibrating with urgency, “but I can feel it in our soul.
