I paced the floor, doctors swarming around Jeff as he was strapped to a mass of beeping machines, the sound echoing inside my bones. I held onto his hand as his blue eyes stayed glued to mine, while they slipped an oxygen mask over his face. He looked frightened, and my heart sank into the pit of my stomach. I tried to smile. Just one gesture that might show him that I believed everything would be okay. That I was going nowhere.  'Mrs Keller?' A short olive skinned doctor gently touched my shoulder. 'I'm Dr Ansari, and I won't beat about the bush here.' I looked down at Jeff, losing colour by the second. Tears blurred my vision, and his lips moved, as if he was trying to tell me something. If I had to hazard a guess at what he wanted to vocalise, I knew he'd be telling me he loved me.
