I opened my eyes slowly and realised that everywhere was quiet. I peeped through the window, and it was night. Massimo had fallen asleep. I needed to pee, so I got up slowly, making sure not to wake him up.
Karl was also asleep as I walked by him. I stood up quietly, taking slow steps so the floor wouldn’t creak, but then…
I heard a sound. A small voice.
It floated from behind me, soft but sharp enough to make every hair on my body rise.
My heart thudded hard, and I froze.
No… That couldn’t be real.
I swallowed and forced myself to keep walking, but the voice came again…louder this time, clearer, like it was right behind my ear.
It was a woman's voice. Oddly familiar and eerie.
I stopped. My chest tightened as I slowly turned around.
