Valeria pov My heart pounded so hard that I could barely hear anything else. My hands were shaking, my breath shallow. The syringe slipped from my fingers, clattering onto the floor beside the man I’d just stabbed. His eyes were wide open, frozen in shock. The girls stared at me in horror. I backed away until my spine hit the wall. My whole body was trembling. That stupid text replayed in my mind like a curse. ‘I know where Sandor is, meet me at Quill Café.’ And I did. I believed it. I wanted to believe it. Now, I was paying for that mistake. I looked at the door. My fingers itched as I searched the man’s body. His belt had keys. I yanked them off with shaking hands and tried each one in the lock. The third key clicked. I froze. Nothing moved outside. No voices, no footsteps.
