Time flew by, and two months had already passed.
My shoulder healed perfectly.
Throughout those two months, Zebulon split all his time between work and taking care of me at home.
I'd stopped showing up at the coffee shop for so long that they'd already hired new staff.
I wanted to lighten Zebulon's load, and I knew I needed to earn more money to do that.
I'd worked as a host and anchor in my previous life, so I decided to stick with the same career path.
My interview went smoothly. I excitedly told Zebulon the good news, but he only replied with a quiet nod.
My coworkers at the studio were super friendly, and I fit right in with them in no time.
"Leanne, your voice is absolutely amazing! Our show's ratings have blown up ever since you joined us," my coworker, Ivana Womack, said excitedly.
I smiled softly and replied, "You have an amazing voice, too."
Ivana covered her mouth and laughed. "Leanne, it's the end of the month—we're having our team dinner again."
I froze for a second. I'd heard before I got hired that Sonus Null Studio had great benefits and hosted a monthly team dinner.
I'd turned down every single one of the previous gatherings.
I said, "Oh, I've got plans tonight. I don't think I can make it."
"Leanne, you've been here for six months. You have to come this time, please?" Ivana grabbed my arm and shook it, looking genuinely disappointed.
I really didn't want to go, but the whole team kept inviting me. Turning them down over and over again would just come off as rude and ungrateful.
I went to dinner with my coworkers after work. I'd planned to head straight home afterward.
But everyone decided to hit a bar—the Stellara Club.
I was briefly surprised for a couple of seconds.
Still, a small part of me was glad. Going there meant I got to see Zebulon.
I never expected this night would end up making him mad at me.
I stood frozen in place as my coworker, Hank Culver, finished singing a song for me and confessed his feelings.
He said, "Leanne, I like you. Will you go out with me?"
Hank stood on the stage, holding the microphone, staring at me with pure affection.
The other coworkers around us started cheering loudly. "Say yes! Say yes!"
I was speechless. This was the last thing I'd expected.
I already had my husband—even if I hadn't fully won him over yet.
I would never do anything to betray Zebulon.
I was just about to turn him down when a cold, sharp voice cut through the noise. "How do you even have the nerve to sing that badly?"
I looked up and saw Zebulon standing on the stage. He snatched the microphone from Hank's hand, his face full of disdain.
He glanced over at the band, and a new instrumental track started playing right away.
Zebulon held the mic, his eyes locked firmly on me, and started singing Perfect. "Baby, I'm dancing in the dark with you between my arms; Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song; When you said you looked a mess, I whispered underneath my breath; But you heard it, darling, you look perfect tonight."
The room erupted in applause as the song ended.
Tears welled up in my eyes.
Zebulon walked straight over to me, his expression serious. "No dating at your age."
Hank frowned and stepped down from the stage after him. "Who are you?"
Zebulon pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek and replied flatly, "Her older brother."
