Meeting

Eddie raised her arms and her eyes, normally an ocean blue, turned smokey grey. “Home is sacred and a spot to be. We do not want the outside listening. Pull down a curtain of silence for those outside these walls. Hear me now, hear my call. As I will it, mote it be.” Eddie lowered her arms, and the smoke faded from her eyes. “Now what we say in here will be for our ears only and not all must be repeated once I lift the curtain.” Everyone nodded. Only three people in that group had ever seen Eddie perform magic. The boys’ eyes were wide with wonder. Ivy sat back in awe. Jim looked nervous. “Mary had mind linked me, I’m assuming when Ivy had come downstairs this morning. She said someone had been in the house, in Ivy’s room, and when she tried to perform a spell, it had bounced back at her. So, I will let her fill you in on this. Then I will tell you why this is important as we both understand the risk of you being here with us, Declan. Mary?” Eddie passed the proverbial microphone to Mary. Mary didn’t stand up, but her voice carried enough for all to sit up and pay attention. Ivy’s head was spinning, she didn’t understand what was going on in the first place and then to have this boy show up and have all these feelings. Ivy felt a squeeze on her hand and looked down. Al had squeezed her hand when he noticed she had stopped paying attention. When her eyes met his, he nodded towards her mom. Ivy smiled then turned to her mom. “To start, those in this room who do not know me, I am Mary. My husband Jim, you know, and that young beautiful girl is Ivy. I can only assume you boys know Mara as the welcome was quite demonstrative.” Mary said with a chuckle. “You must know that I am a sorceress, a witch if you will. I have magic running through my blood and I connect with the Earth mother and pray to the Moon Goddess. I pray to her every single night and day, and I will continue to do so as she gave me the most precious of gifts.” Jim wiped at a tear that had slid from Mary’s eye. “17 years ago, Jim and I were pregnant. Halfway through my pregnancy, I started to bleed heavily. I could feel my baby’s life energy leaving the baby I was carrying.” Jim squeezed her hand; she gave it a squeeze back. “I prayed and wished, oh how I prayed that night. I did not magic, but I will not lie, and I thought of it. Black magic is against our code, it is the most forbidden. So instead, I prayed. What felt like days, had only been hours and as I was about to head inside from our balcony, a blinding white light appeared.” Al sat up with attention at this. It felt familiar. “The Moon Goddess appeared and brought me, brought us, our baby. We had to protect her and guide her. Those were her words. She must not know of where she came from until it was time. We kept Ivy a secret for some time. I stayed inside and let Jim deal with the outside world. It was how I knew to protect her at the time. I called Eddie and we devised a plan to block Ivy’s powers from surfacing. Even as a baby, she demonstrated such a high gift. The potions were made slightly strong at first but then turned into stronger as the, years went by. Eventually, she had to be brought out to the world. I did everything I could think of as a mother, a woman, a witch that would protect her. I would say that we did an exceptionally decent job of it. Jim and I remained in contact with the Moon Gooddess through messengers here and there to give or receive updates. We knew something was coming. The potions were no longer taking effect and Ivy started demonstrating small doses of her powers. Then a few days ago, Jim received a message that Ivy would come into full power, potion or no, on her 17th birthday. That same afternoon, Mara called us and had to bring Ivy home for a healing as something happened to her. Ivy has been experiencing a sensation that allows her to sense danger, which happened at the mall after Eddie healed her. A few days later, I am assuming it was you boys that went to the high school?” Mara asked and each of the boy nodded their heads. “Ivy experienced the mate pull.” Mary looked at Declan who nodded then nodded to Al. Mary looked at her daughter next to the Alpha’s son and smiled. “It was then we decided we had to tell Ivy what was going on in part. We have not told you everything yet and there will be things you figure out along this path we have chosen, for that I am sorry.” Mary told Ivy. “So, what brings us here today?” Sebastian asked. Always the investigator. Mara bumped his shoulder with hers. “This morning, when Ivy came downstairs, she told Jim he has put on the perfect amount of aftershave. Now, when Ivy was younger, she had an intense sniffer. She would get headaches sometimes, due to all the different smells, so we did what we could and stopped using things with scents in them and went to plain variety. It helped along with the potions or vitamins we gave her.” Declan raised a finger in the air. “Quick question regarding the sniffer.” Everyone snickered except Mary who waved at him to go ahead. “You say it was intense, could you tell me if you remember her being able to tell the smells apart or tell you exactly what the object she was smelling was?” Jim looked over at Declan, “She could pick out each smell strand, she could describe what was something was made of, she could describe in detail each grain of grass.” Declan’s eyes went a little wide then narrowed and looked at Ivy. Ivy sensing, he was looking at he, turned and faced him. “Young lady, if I may?” Declan looked at Mary and Jim, who seemed not concerned at all with what the Alpha was asking. Then Declan turned to Eddie, “You said there is no more blockers in her system?” Eddie nodded.
