The voice rang through Shadow’s mind as if she spoke right to him.
Who are you? How do you know my name?Shadow asked back.
The woman smiled and folded her hands in front of her.
I have waited a long time to meet you. I have always known your name. I have watched you grow and become into the man and wolf you are now. I know what kind of Alpha you will be. I know everything about you and your role in the prophecy. As to who I am, I think you already know. Just think.
Shadow looked at the woman. He knew who she was. He only heard stories of her. He didn’t know why she was here. Alastair came to the front and looked through Shadow’s eyes. He saw the woman wink.
What are you doing here? My role in what prophecy? I don’t mean any disrespect but why are you here? Shadow was confused.
I don’t have much time, young pup. I came here because I can sense she is coming to power soon and she will need your help to control her powers. The moment you met, a powerful surge went through our lands, and I just knew. I knew it was time. The woman started rubbing her hands together as if she was nervous.
With all due respect to your Goddessness, what I am to do about some girl and her powers? I am only to become an Alpha.
The Moon Goddess looked at Shadow and could see Alastair underneath soaking it all in. She knew she only had a few more moments before she had to get back. Just then a thought came into her mind. She clapped her hands together; with a little focus and energy a ball of light was formed. The glow faded and, in her hands, was a simple necklace with a moon pendant hanging from the chain. She closed her hands over the necklace and the one became two. Shadow watched in amazement. He watched as the necklaces floated and landed in front of him.
One is for you. One is for her. I gave my wolves the powers to recognize their mates, but yours is different. You and your mate are the key. These necklaces will help the bond cement. They will glow and hum when you are near each other and the glow will get brighter until you both have a necklace on. Once the necklaces are placed upon your necks, they will bring you to me and I will explain everything. By the time you come to me, you will have more questions, and I imagine… your mate will make this fun for you.
With the last of her speech, she lifted her arms and Shadow had to look away from the brightest light he was ever faced with. When the light was gone, he looked back to the water and there was nothing. It was as if it didn’t happen except when he looked down, there, in the sand were two necklaces with moon shaped pendants. Al decided to take back over and shifted back into human form. Just as Al was sliding his jeans on, his friends were breaking the tree line. Seeing him in human form, the wolves stopped, and they both shifted.
“What in the actual f**k was that? You just stop responding after telling us there was a strange woman FLOATING on water?” Liam was furious and stomping towards Al. Liam reached Al and pushed him back. “How f*****g stupid can you be?”
Al’s eyes flashed. “Careful.” He ground out.
“Careful? Careful of what? You want to take me on because I am pissed at you for putting yourself in danger? Go right ahead, oh mighty Alpha.” Liam sneered.
Al took a breath. He knows Liam is coming from the right place even if he isn’t going about, it the right way. “I wasn’t in any danger. I told you I didn’t sense danger. It wasn’t some strange woman guys. It was the f*****g Moon Goddess.” That stopped whatever was going to come out of Liam’s mouth. Both Liam and Don’s mouths dropped open, and their eyes were as large as saucers.
“No way.” Don shook his head, being the first to recover. “The Moon Goddess doesn’t come down here. She is just a tale our parents tell us.” Don was still shaking his head. A flash of lightning struck the night sky.
The three boys looked across the river. Al turned his head and looked at Don. “You were saying?” Liam chuckled.
“Ok, so what did she want? What did she look like? Did she say anything to you?” Liam looked at Al.
“There was a lot. Hang on, I am going to mind link Dad and Mom. I think I need to bring them in on this.” Liam and Don nodded their heads.
Dad? Mom? Ahem Sorry to interrupt but something happened, and I need you, I think.
Where are you? Is everything ok? Who’s with you? Ida replied quickly.
Riverbend. Liam and Donovan. We are coming home and maybe?
Do you need me to come to you? Al thought for a moment. Declan asked.
No, Dad, we are good to get back. Be there in a minute.
Al looked at his friends. “Ok, we’re going to head back to my place. The parentals are good. I only want to tell it once so let’s head there.”
The guys agreed. Both Liam and Don shifted into their wolves and waited for Al to strip and shift. Al took his shirt and laid the necklaces inside of them and carefully wrapped them up within his shirt then wrapped his pants around the shirt to make sure the necklaces stayed tucked in. Al shifted and they made their way to his house.
When the boys got back to Al’s house, his parents were waiting for them in the living room. Al walked in and saw not only his parents but the parents of Liam and Don.
“Well party at our house. Makes sense as to what I have to tell you, Dad, to have your Beta here.” Declan raised his eyebrows. It wasn’t like Al to make light of a report.
Ida handed Al a robe as he was still naked, clutching his clothes. She looked at the pile and held open her hands for him to give to her. Al clutched the pile closer to his chest. Ida dropped her arms and looked at her son. Liam and Don walked over to their parents, and each kissed their mom on the cheek. Declan sat in his armchair while everyone found a place to sit around the coffee table. Al still stood in the doorway looking around. It looked like one of his dad’s meetings that he went to once. Their living room was huge and had 2 couches plus Dad’s armchair and a nice crystal coffee table made from wood and resin with a moon in the middle of it. Mom said the moon reminds us of where we came from.
Declan cleared his throat and waited for his son. Al looked at his father then at his mother. Ida had moved to sit on the armrest of his dad’s chair. They looked like a united front sitting there with his mom’s hand on his dad’s shoulder and his dad just relaxed but on alert sipping on a brandy. Al walked in and sat on the edge of the couch that was closest to his parents.
“Alright. So the guys and I wanted to get out of the house due to the... the activities that were going on in said house.” Al blushed a little recounting the beginning of the story. Each of the women looked at their men and smiled. Al shook his head. Eww. “Anyways, I met up with Liam then we met up with Don. Each of us wanting to get away. So, we went to the forest so we could go to the riverbank. Once inside the tree line, we shifted. Shadow wanted to race and threw a wager out to the other wolves. Once they agreed, we took off. I took a backseat and allowed Shadow to take over. When Shadow got to the edge of the riverbend, there was this blinding light.” Ida and Selma both gasped. Al looked at his mother then at Don’s mother. They knew. “I did not sense any danger. Once I got there, the light seemed to fade into itself, into a woman.” Declan sat forward and sat his glass down on the table at this. Declan eyes were alert. “She was so beautiful. I could hear Apollo and Rip talking to me, so I let them know after she gave me the go ahead. I gave them a brief report then blocked them out.” Declan narrowed his eyes at that but let his son continue. “I know it wasn’t the right thing to do, but I wanted to know what was happening. I didn’t know anything at that point. She spoke to me, but it wasn’t speaking. It was more of a mind link but clearer. She told me about a girl and her powers, how I was to help her. She spoke of some prophecy and my role. She said she didn’t have much time.” Declan stood and started pacing. He was trying to wrap his head around all this.
“I just told you of the tale of the Moon Goddess tonight. Is this a joke?” Declan started to say. Alastair was taken aback for a moment. “Dad, I wouldn’t joke about this!”
Declan rubbed his face with his hand. “I’m sorry son.”
“What did she look like?” This question came from Sebastian, Liam’s father.
“She was beautiful. Her hair was so blonde, almost white. Her eyes were so blue, it was like I could swim in them. Her smile was soft. She glowed and floated, literally. I felt warm and love from her.” Sebastian nodded. “Oh!” Everyone looked at Al. He started to unravel his clothing. Once he got to his shirt, Al carefully unwrapped the cloth and revealed the necklaces. The women immediately went over to them. Selma started running her hands over the necklaces and muttering. The necklaces started to float and had a blue glimmer around them then just as they floated up, they floated back down. Selma looked at Al.
“The prophecy includes you.” Ida looked at her friend. “Are you sure it’s Al?” Selma laid her hand on Ida’s. “I’m sure.”
“Ok that is it. What is this damn prophecy everyone keeps talking about? What has it to do with me?”
No one spoke. The three younger boys looked at the adults. They had no clue of any prophecy.
“The Moon Goddess is our ancestor. She is the creator of our kind.”
“Yeah, I know that part.” Al interrupted Diane, sounding mildly irritated. Diane shot him a look. “Sorry auntie.” That settled her.
“She created our other halves, allowed us to become wolves and harness certain powers. It is said the Moon Goddess loved all her pups but what she longed for was love and companionship for herself. The Moon Goddess bestowed the magic of us finding our True Mates. It is a bond, more powerful than any there is. What the Moon Goddess didn’t account for when she made that magic happen, was it happening to her. You see, spells are powerful words, and you must be extremely specific when reciting a spell. It was rumored that one day after the Moon Goddess had given us the gift of finding our True Mates, she walked past a man and immediately felt the mate bond. She didn’t understand what she was feeling. The man must have felt something as well. The heat in the heart, the dizziness, the loss of everything around you except that other person. It was love. It was forbidden.” Everyone listened as Diane continued the tale. “The Moon Goddess had fallen in love with a Vampire. The Dark Prince. There were rules in place. Species were to remain friendly but to never cross. The rules didn’t matter to them. They were so in love. They would hide away for hours in their own secret place. They would talk and make love every day, until the day Bane caught them. Bane is a creation made from The Dark Prince, his protégé. However, Bane was jealous. He wanted the Moon Goddess to himself. She was the most beautiful creature he had ever laid eyes on. When Bane caught them, the Moon Goddess begged and pleaded with him. The Dark Prince threatened him. Bane did not like that very much and vowed retribution. It left the Moon Goddess shaken. Weeks went by and there was nothing. Nothing from the other council members and nothing from Bane. The Dark Prince thought he must have scared Bane enough for him to leave them alone. The Dark Prince and the Moon Goddess didn’t meet during those weeks in fear of Bane and the consequences. After a month of not seeing her beloved, the Moon Goddess couldn’t take it anymore. She needed to see him. It was like a hole in her heart without him. She had something to tell him. She was pregnant.” Diane paused and took a sip of water. “When the Moon Goddess got to their special meeting place, she waited for him to show up. She waited for hours with no Dark Prince. Just as she was about to leave, she saw a shadow of a man walking towards her. It wasn’t the Dark Prince, but Bane instead. He looked at her in disgust.
“I did not want to believe it any longer. I thought I made myself clear that it would not be pretty if you kept seeing him.” Bane shouted at her. He had gone mad with rage and jealousy.
Sensing this, the Moon Goddess tried to reason with him. “I was not waiting for him, but for you.” The Moon Goddess could taste the lie on her tongue like a bitter pill.
Bane laughed manically. In a flash, he was in front of her. She gasped. “If you were a better actress, I would have believed you.” He grabbed her arms and forced her to the ground. Bane r***d the Moon Goddess and just as he finished, the Dark Prince walked up the hill. He saw what happened and lost his control. The Dark Prince was on Bane in an instant. The blow he landed sent Bane flying and crashing into a tree. The Dark Prince appeared before him once again, this time Bane was ready and punched the Dark Prince with so much force it caused the Dark Prince to tumble over the cliff into the raging waters of the ocean. The Moon Goddess screamed as he went over. Bane looked at her and smiled, “That bastard is mine” pointing at her stomach. The Moon Goddess laid her hand over her belly. A piercing sound came from the Moon Goddess, Bane’s eyes went wide with fear, he covered his ears against the high pitch sound, and a blinding white light surrounded the Moon Goddess, then she was gone. Bane was enraged. He gathered a few of his followers and destroyed the Moon Goddess’s home, burned it to the ground. He was crazed. He ordered his followers to avenge him, they slaughtered many in their sleep, he turned humans, he left many to die. It was a m******e. When the Moon Goddess heard the calls for help from her people, even through her own grief, she came. The pain coming from each of them was unbearable. When she got there, she wished she hadn’t. Bane had destroyed everything they had worked so hard for. All the species were afraid of each other, the vampires became enemy number one for wolves, there was no peace or love. There was only hate and destruction. The sea of bodies lying in the streets, the hybrids of wolf and vampire were torn to bits by each other for the blood lust. Lost in her own grief and sadness, the Moon Goddess didn’t realize the Dark Prince didn’t die. He felt her heartbreak and climbed the cliff to the top, just as she let out a howl of sadness. Covered in shreds of clothes, blood and scrapes, the Dark Prince made it to the center of the town where the Moon Goddess sat crumpled, sobbing. He stopped beside her and gathered her in his arms. She clung to him thinking it was just a dream. Her people, her creations were mutilated and destroyed. The Dark Prince brought her to the place of the council members. Upon finding out what Bane did, the fury from the council members erupted. The council agreed and reenacted a separate set of rules. It was necessary for the remainder of our kinds. Each council member would over see their own species, the members would meet quarterly for reports, and there would be absolutely no cross-species breeding. Those in failure of said rules would be punished severely. Halflings would be destroyed as it was not the natural order of things. It was the only way to keep everyone safe. The Moon Goddess was afraid. She was carrying a halfling.
A few days after the big council meeting, as everyone prepared to go to their own portals to their own worlds, the Moon Goddess stopped the Queen of Fairies.
“Paige.” The Moon Goddess bowed her head to the queen.
“Celine.” The queen bowed her head back showing respect.
“Could I possibly bother you for a moment. I need a favor, but I don’t want others to hear.” Paige was intrigued. Celine motioned for Paige to come to her rooms. Once Paige was inside, Celine muttered and waved her hands over her door. Paige raised an eyebrow as Celine turned around. “Listening spell. I don’t want this leaving this room.” Paige nodded. Celine waved her hand at a chair and Paige sat.
“So, what is this favor that is so secret?” Celine looked nervous. “Celine, we have been friends for centuries, you can tell me.” Paige leaned forward, a few tendrils of her silky black hair had brushed against her arm, and she laid her hand on Celines. She had never seen her so worked up except when Caleb brought her home.
“I’m pregnant.” Celine whispered.
“Oh, but that is wonderful. You will make a terrific mommy.” Paige was thrilled but as she spoke, she was watching Celine’s face and realized that it was not a moment to celebrate. “The new rules put in place must be a real pain in the ass right now, huh?” With a small chuckle trying to lighten the mood.
Celine looked at Paige with tears in her eyes. “All I ever wanted was a pup of my own. Now I won’t be able to have that chance.” Tears started streaming down her face.
Paige immediately understood. “Does Caleb know?” Celine shook her head ferociously. “Ok, do you want him to know?” Again, Celine shook her head no. “What do you want to do darling?”
“I want this baby more than anything, but I know I can’t keep it.” Paige sat for a moment then had an idea.
“What if you could still have your pup?” Celine looked at her friend with confusion. “I don’t understand.”
The thought that swirled through Paige began to form and solidify. Paige began to glimmer and glow a golden hue. When Paige spoke again, it was like someone else,
A child will be born of night and will be the savior to all. She will be more powerful than any before her. She is the key to survival. There will come a time for a great battle, she will need her mate to defeat the evil. Together they will bring our worlds to one. Together, the moon will overcome.
Paige stopped talking and powered down as she was blinking. “Well then.” Paige blew out a breath.
“What was that?” Celine asked Paige.
“Once in a while, my ancestors think it’s fun to come through me and send out prophecies.”
“A prophecy? My baby?” Paige took a sip of water that was in a glass in front of her. Celine sank into her chair and rested her hands over the small swell of her belly.
“What can I do? If they find out about the baby, they will take it away.” Celine looked alarmed. Paige thought for a moment.
“There is a potion that I can make, it will mask the scent of pregnancy. We need to find a vessel. Someone that can carry the baby for you. I can transfer the pregnancy to her, and you will still have your pup. We can also mask the pup’s other scent when it is born, and it will be ‘purely’ a wolf.” Paige said confidently and sat her glass down.
Celine couldn’t think. Her hands rubbing the small swell of her belly. She closed her eyes and felt the beginning tingles of movement. A tear escaped her eye and rolled down her cheek. She nodded. “I think I know who I can trust with this.” Paige stood up. “Alright, let’s go.” Paige held her hand out to Celine.”
The entire room was silent. Diane stood up and walked to the necklaces. She picked one up and felt the hum vibrate from it. Diane could feel the magic inside of it. “The Moon Goddess must have been successful in transferring her pregnancy and her child, her daughter is tied to you.” Diane looked at Al.
Alastair could not stop the thoughts from spinning around inside of his head. He had so many questions and he didn’t know where to begin. He felt a hand on his shoulder. Al looked up and saw his mother standing next to him.
“Whatever it is, we will get through it. Why don’t I make everyone tea and we can start a game plan on finding this special girl?” Ida gave her best hostess smile. Al touched his mother’s hand on his shoulder and gave it a small squeeze. He would always be grateful for his mom.
Alastair looked at everyone gathered around the table with either a piece of paper in their hands or a cup of some type of beverage. They had been combing through old history books, books from the Elders, and any Alpha book that Declan could get his hands on. He had been making calls all night to different packs to get any lore on the Moon Goddess. No one had heard of this supposed pregnancy, or a child born of the night. Around 3:30 in the morning, Ida gently pushed everyone out the door so they could get some resemblance of sleep. Al couldn’t sleep, thoughts just racing through his head at the thought of his mate being out there at last. He made the decision he was going back to that school today. He needed to find the girl with purple eyes.
