Kaelen The hotel room door clicked shut behind me as I stepped in, exhausted from the day’s work and eager for a moment of peace. But the scene that greeted me was far from calm. Alara was darting back and forth, her suitcase thrown open on the bed, clothes flying into it with frantic energy. Her face was flushed with panic, and her hands trembled as she shoved more things into her luggage. “Alara!” I called out, trying to get her attention, but she barely acknowledged me, continuing her frantic pace. Without thinking, I rushed to her, grabbing her shoulders and pulling her to a stop. “What the hell is going on? Why are you acting like this?” She pulled away from me, her breath ragged, and shook her head. “Kaelen, we need to leave. We need to get out of Crestwood City. Now.” Her words
