Chapter 7

• • Luna • • I felt so cold... Wolfish eyes of all colors haunted me, every mirror I looked in, those same wolfish eyes stared back at me. I covered the mirrors with my old blankets and huddled into a corner. I swear I could hear that husky voice calling me... Luna... Luna... Luna.... "LUNA." Rory shouted before smacking me. Instantly I went into fight mode, kicking and screaming. When I looked at him all I saw was that big black wolf towering over me, it's eyes full of irresistible hunger. I must have struck him as he breathed harshly spitting a small line of profanities my way. My heart was racing so fast I swear it was going to explode. "LUNA for f**k sake it's me." Rory seethed before grabbing my ankles as I was about to kick him again. Before I knew it soft lips connected with mine in a slow, but soft kiss. I froze... slowly that black wolf dissipated and turned into the familiar face of my savior... Rory. He stopped before looking at me, his yellow eyes were showing a hint of worry. "Are you okay now?" He said coldly, that worry now turning into annoyance. I shoved him off me and curled my knees to my chest. "A thank you would have sufficed." He grumbled and stood. He was serious now. "Now what the hell were you thinking??" He hissed, I could only stare as he went on and on about how it was the worst idea I've ever had, how I could have died, how I could have been enslaved and used before being killed and tossed out... I only had one question in mind which filled a void in the room and shutting him up. "Why do you care?" I whispered. He stared at me, silence enveloping us like a cold blanket. His eyes were a mixture of surprise, question, hurt, and the most pronounced and the only gaze I'm use to, anger. He strode to me before grabbing my hand and hissed. "Why do I care? Because I want to be the one to kill you. To drink you dry until your a sun dried grape. Until your skin loses its tone and you're as pale as a ghost. You're MY blood bag. That's why I care. Because no one's blood tastes sweeter than yours, Number 4." The extra emphasis on my number made it sting more... I swore I saw regret swimming in his yellow eyes before they turned cold again, but it could have been my imagination. I was silent for a good while before I said. "I wish they had killed me." Rory's stiffened. He searched my gaze for a long while before standing up and shoving things off the dresser. His rage wasn't normal, why should he care so much. He didn't care about my well being, only that I was an easy meal. "Stay here. No meals for you today. Only water and that's final!" He hissed before slamming the door behind him. As his footfalls receded back to his room, my mind was silent. His words stabbed deep into my heart and I didn't know why. Whimpering I curled myself onto my old bed... and cried the whole night. • • Rory • • "I wish they had killed me." She said selfishly, no remorse or even sadness made it's way to the surface. She said it with voided eyes which cut deeper than any knife. I couldn't bare seeing her beautifully brown eyes looking so lifeless, saying words she didn't mean... I just trashed her dresser, gave a heartless punishment and walked away.. leaving her broken and afraid. As I reached my room I could hear her sobs, the ones she tried so hard to keep silent. I sat on the bed and listened. She wanted to die that day? Was being here so bad... must have been, I wasn't exactly a nice person to her. I ran my hands through my hair, breathing evenly. "Why do you care?" I gave her such a pathetic excuse... one that would sound threatening, but it would just make her want to escape again. I didn't mean it... as much as I hate the feeling I did care... when I saw Axel over her, when I saw his teeth inches from her throat... I realized I cared. Suddenly the memory of what I did with Amanda appalled me to the point I puked into the nearest trash can. I care... I care about her... I've come to realize. The words to foreign in my mind. I've never felt this way towards another human so why her. Why do I care so much? I started pacing, wrapping my head around the feeling, the slow increasing of my heart. Was this allowed? Am I suppose to feel this way? I called in her maid... I needed to know. Clarissa, Luna's maid entered the room, a scowl on her face. "What did you say to her?" She said, arms folding over her chest. I looked at her, had she visited Luna? Was she okay? "Why?" I asked, a mask of coldness in my voice. She only clicked her tongue before shutting the doors. "Because she's sobbing her heart out in there and the only word I heard her say was 'Rory', which was surprising." She taunted. That stung and I know she saw me flinch. Her eyes suddenly softened. "You regret it." I released a long sigh before settling down again. "This is all complicated..." I murmured, my eyes closing as a headache formed. "My god, my lord you do." She breathed before sitting beside me. "What did you say to her?" She asked again, but softly this time. "I told her that she was nothing to me, basically..." I groaned, regret pounding in my chest. She only nodded slowly. "She told me she wished they had killed her.... And asked why I cared." Clarissa stiffened beside me. She stood before cupping my face in her hands. "Apologize to her." She whispered, her eyes motherly. "Apologize and tell her you didn't mean it." I only frowned. "They will start to see me as weak if I do that." Which was a valid reason. If I seemed weak the other vampires will rebel and challenge me for the throne... She understood that well, and shrugged. "Do it secretly then." I shook my head, that was cowardly advice. "No, I'm not a coward..." I groaned, running out of options. She frowned again, has she always frowned this much? "I do not find it weak to fall in love." She said sternly. Fall in love... is that what was happening? Did I love Luna? The thought seemed so wrong that I pushed it away... it was bad enough I cared for a human... loving her was a different sort of mess. She shook her head before heading to the door. "Figure out something then. She must have fallen asleep already." She sighed before leaving. I didn't think, thinking was something that didn't occurred to me as I stride down the hall and to Luna's door. Opening it softly I saw her, passed out, her eyes puffy from her crying. She looked almost peaceful. I pulled a chair next to her bed and watched her. Every breath she took, and twitch in her muscles. She must have been having a nightmare as she softly whimpered, her fist clenching and unclenching. Hours passed and she was still suffering. I hated it for some reason, seeing her suffer like this even while sleeping. Had she always had nightmares and I was too prideful to notice? To care? Pulling away her blanket I scooted next to her, spooning her into me as I felt her rear rub against my stomach. It took an effort not to take her right now, but I curled into her, my chest pressed onto her back and my face in the crook of her neck. Instantly she stopped whimpering, she stopped twitching, and her breath evened... Before I knew it, I was fast asleep, the smell of her dancing around in my dreams.
