Waking up was the worst... my body ached and my head throbbed, going to sleep seemed like heaven on earth rather than this.
I looked over my shoulder to see Rory was already gone. Expected...
I started to get up before I heard the doors open, my heart skipping a soft beat before Rory entered, his eyes narrowed on me, his muscles instantly alert. "You're awake." Was all he said before stalking to where I now hesitantly stood.
"So? What if I am. You expect me to sleep for all eternity?" I seethed, looking for something to defend myself with if it came to it. Rory must have noticed this because his eyes voided, looking almost lifeless when he said, "If I wanted to kill you, I would've done it while you were sleeping."
Right.... He could have. I shook my head before returning his icy glare. "You could be saving it for when I was awake, you enjoy prey that's aware don't you?" I mocked, remembering a passage in a book I read that said Vampires only got pleasure from feeding off prey that was AWAKE.
Just as I thought. His feline grin held me steadily, he only advanced a pace when Seth came through the doors, loosening the breathe I wasn't aware I was holding.
"Breakfast is ready." He said to me. I must have looked like a deer in headlights because both of them seemed to smile. "Whenever he's done with you, that is." Seth grinned before shutting the doors. I looked accusingly to Rory.
"Breakfast? What, are you trying to poison me now?" I scoffed. I swear I saw hurt glaze over his yellow eyes before they turned cold again, his face now serious before he grabbed the leash and yanked me to him, our faces barely touching. Looking into his eyes now, they aren't just yellow. They had orange and red flecks in them. He was looking at mine too, his gaze unwavering. He stepped aside letting the leash fall. "Go." He said sternly. I only scowled before walking out. He didn't follow me.
I took my time, wondering the halls, listening. Rory had mentioned other humans here, that's if they weren't killed already. My "breakfast" was probably cold by now but I don't care, I'm not eating their food. They probably poisoned it or drugged but after hearing what I had done with Rory, If he told them at all.
As I walked by, there was a small tap on the door next to me. I was frozen, my back stiffening. The tap sounded again and I drew my gaze to the dark wooden door beside me. "Hello?" I whispered, putting myself a few inches closer to the door. No one responded.
"Hello? I heard you tapping... are you okay?" I said, running my hand soothingly on the door. "I'm not one of them if that's what you think." I cautioned, looking around the hall before putting my hand softly on the doorknob.
"No... please. Don't come in..." a melodic voice sounded from the other side of the door. It sounded like a child... but not a child at the same time. I cursed before putting my back to the door. So there was others...
"My names Luna... I was taken here just like you." I say as soothingly as I could manage. I needed to gain her trust, maybe she knew a way out of here, or a way to put an end to this misery. "May come in?" There was nothing, no tapping, no breathing, nothing. Then suddenly the door cracked open.
There was a women there, maybe around my age or younger. She had black hair and hazel eyes. A beautiful tan on her skin, wearing the same gown as me... what pigs... "Oh good... you weren't lying..." she breathed, the panic and fear washing slowly from her face. It was only then did I notice the identical collar on her neck... the same tag too.
Rory #1
So there's 4 of us... I see. Getting a good view of her now, she was thin. Plates of food still covered her side table. She wasn't eating and that was clear enough. "Why don't you eat?" I asked, concern lacing my voice like silk.
"If I eat he'll drink from me..." she said softly, her voice barely a whisper. I tried to reach for her, but my hand instantly fell. "How old are you?" I asked, generally curious. I needed to know the age gap to which Rory liked his... blood bags.
"I'm 17...." She choked. I only blinked, nothing she said registered until I looked at her dull eyes. "17?!?" I seethed and I swore she flinched so hard my heart threatened melt. I made an apologetic gesture before shutting the door softly behind me. "Sorry..." I mumbled.
She nodded before retreating to her bed. "There are others... two more counting you and me." She said, her hand gliding on the bedspread. She looked at me, her hazel eyes somehow found some light in her spirit that they now shined, but she didn't smile. "You're new aren't you?" I only nodded to her question, a silent agreement.
"How old are you?" She said, tilting her head. "You look older." I swear I gagged. If I look older I can't imagine how much younger the other 2 are. "I'm 19. I'll be 20 soon, maybe in a couple months? You lose track of time in here." I muttered, forgetting my own birthday seemed less of a crime compared to what was going on here. "How old are the others?" I asked, probably regretting the question instantly.
"12 and 15." She said as she sighed. I was seething, she probably noticed before waving her hands at me. "R-Rory doesn't you know... he just, comes in here, drinks from us, and leaves!" She was stuttering, clearly nervous. That explanation calmed me. But I still couldn't shake the fact they were children. "How long have you all been here...?" I said silently. She only shook her head. "I've been here since I was 13, Mina, who is 12, has been here since she was 8. Vince... he's been here since he was 12." She planted herself on-top of the bed, folding her hands neatly in her lap. They've been here 3-4 years... all of them... their numbers arranged by who arrived first I'm guessing. "Is Vince #2?" I asked, and she only shook her head. "He's #3..." She sighed. It made since... her and Mina have been here for 4 years. Meaning he was recent...
"What's your name?" I said, trailing to her. "Rebecca." She muttered, twirling her hair around her finger. "So you're the second oldest then?" She nodded. "That would make you the first." She replied, a small smile crept onto her face.
"Do you know a way out of here?" I said, probably the worst idea but, good as any. She flushed of any color, her eyes widening. "Yes.... My window was never bolted... we are on the first floor so..." she looked at me, she looked sick... petrified. "I tried to escape once, they only caught up to me."
I scoffed. "I can run quick enough." I said before reaching for the window, she only scooted out of my way. "Please, if they find out..." she begged only for me to look at her, sympathy seemed to flare in her eyes. "I won't get caught. I've been studying the tree line for a while now. I know all the best places to get away." I reassured her and she seemed to loosen a breath.
I unlatched the window before climbing out of it. I could have danced in victory if I wanted to, but I didn't. I booked it. Rebecca carefully watching from the window, worry edging every bit of her face. She whipped around quickly all of a sudden, but I didn't have time to see why, I was free, I will leave.
As I made it for the tree line, there was a roar from back at the house. Rory... he found out. He must have threatened the information out of her, poor girl. I sprinted as fast as my legs could carry me, I always did well in track at school, being faster than all the other kids, my mom always said I was blessed to have such speed, but never told me why she thought that way.
There was a twig that snapped in the distance. I stopped dead in my tracks and looked around. Surely Rory hasn't caught up to me that quickly... Panic bubbled inside me like a well shaken can of soda. It was only then did my fear turn to stone... my spine turning cold as a large black wolf shoved its way from a bush, snarling, it's blue eyes piercing me through the bone as it stalked toward me.
"Well... look what we have here..." a voice said deep in my mind.
