Livia can’t help thinking about last night’s experience at the opera. Of course the music was great. But the company was unforgettable. Last night her heart was beating so fast after her hands were held by Josh. It was a moment that she cannot forget. “Is this love?”, a question she kept asking herself.
“Hey Livia, you may want to have a time off? You’ve been staring at the counter for minutes now. Why don’t you make yourself productive?” Mr. Brooks while looking at her with his arms clamped. Suddenly Livia woke from her dream-like moments with Josh.
“Oh, I’m sorry Mr. Brooks. It won’t happen again.” Livia trying to escape from his tiger look. She started to mop and smiled to herself thinking, “What’s going on with me?”
“Livia, I’d like a word with you after you're done with that.” Mr. Brooks, pointing to the Manager’s Office. “Oh, no. I think I know what this means…” Livia whispering to herself. Suddenly the mop felt heavy. After she finished, with a heavy heart, she walked towards the Office.
Inside, she saw the neat and tidy Office of Mr. Brooks. Everything is on its place, as if an ideal office, like those she has seen in the commercials and movies. “Wow. This is a very professional office. So organized…”
“Ms. Nadal, please sit down.” Mr. Brooks while writing something on the paper. “I called you because your performance lately hasn’t been as good as when you started in this shop. I wonder if something’s worrying you?” Mr. Brooks’ blue eyes are again staring at her. Livia can’t help but melt because of shame from her conduct.
“I’m sorry again Mr. Brooks. I am off my mind lately because… school is nearly ending and I’ve got some compliance that…” Livia trying to explain but halted when Mr. Brooks raised his hand signifying her to stop.
“Well I’ve got news for you. I am paying you hourly and I need my money’s worth. I hired you to do your work and not to hear that crap. This is your last time Ms. Nadal. One more and I will be forced to fire you.” Mr. Brooks with a stern voice.
“Yes, Sir. Thank you for giving me another chance…” Livia looked down on the floor and nearly dropped a tear. She slowly moved out of the room, resolving to herself that this will not happen again…
