Being called by the boss wasn’t something Detective Diane Russell ever looked forward to, it wasn’t that she didn’t appreciate her boss,
she clearly did but sometimes he could be a pain to so many butts.
Josh White was a no nonsense man, with his ever trimmed moustache and his suspender trousers, he demanded respect wherever he went.
Walking into the cream colored room she is met by studying brown eyes looking at her, composing herself she adjusts her skirt
“Good afternoon Sir” she greets
After a moment of silence he replies
“Afternoon Detective Russell, here please do have a seat”
He says pointing to a seat in front of him,
Diane moves over to the seat sitting and staring at her boss wondering what he wanted to speak to her about.
John clears his throat breaking her from her thoughts
“yes, the reason I called you is because there has been recent strange happenings occurring in Orlando and there is far too many deaths
so I want you to drive down there with your partner Rannel and go check it out, here is the case file” he says handing Diane a blue file.
Diane opens it looking through, “50 deaths”, yeah that is real strange she mutters to herself.
“Why didn’t the government look into this sooner” she asks looking up at John,
“I don’t know, we just got a call today and were told to send in our best detectives and I thought of you and Rannel, speaking of him where is he”
“ohh late day for him, woke up late” she says “at least that’s what he told me” she adds
John looks at her then laughs “am sure he is still with that his old f**k from Carolina, f**k you Rannel” he says cursing out loud
Diane laughs knowing very well that with Thomas it probably is true, he claims he doesn’t want to settle down but he keeps on seeing her.
“Am sure that is exactly where he is, well I’ll inform him of our new case, ok John, am off, I see what I can dig up” she says standing up
“Yeah you do that, I gotta go down to the investigation floor, a criminal is giving Badwin a hard time” he says shaking his head “sometimes I wonder how he got his job if he can’t handle a freaking investigation properly” he mutters walking out his office.
Diane laughs.
“Yo partner” a voice screams seating on the chair opposite from Diane
“What Thomas, you show up at what 3 in the freaking afternoon, the hell” she says frowning at Thomas.
Thomas looks at her for a second intently before answering raising his hands up in surrender
“Am sorry D, was very busy yesterday” he says
“Yeah with your Carolina girl” she says
Thomas grins clearly accepting the fact,
Diane throws her hand in the air exasperatedly picking up the file case and handing it over to him
“We’ve got a new case, Orlando, 50 deaths, something strange is going and we have been assigned to check it out” Diane says
“That’s big, 50 deaths wow” Thomas breathes
“Yeah that’s what I said, it’s suspicious, the last death was of a woman Talia Greenstone, 5’3, widowed, 54 years old, no signs of struggle, like she didn’t even know that she was been killed”
“What did the autopsy show?” Thomas inquires
“Death by strangling, but if your being strangled won’t you struggle I don’t get it” Diane says frustrated
“Yeah, but if your unconscious” Thomas answers
“But there was no sign of her being drugged in her system or a hit that could cause a concussion or an injection nothing” Diane replies, this really was a tough case.
“We have got to get down there and fast, there is something seriously going on down there and it isn’t good” Thomas says sighing
“Yeah we leave in the morning luckily we get there by sunset.
