Fourty-Nine | New Luna

1235 Words
Cal Today is the day of the Luna ceremony. When I wake Titus isn’t in our bed and a wave of sadness comes over me knowing that I won’t be able to enjoy my morning with him. I walk out of our room and begin my walk towards the kitchen when I bump into his mom. I smile, “Luna Amy, good morning.” She smiles brightly at me- I think this is the happiest I’ve ever seen her, and she says, “Oh Cali, I’ve been wanting to show you something! Would you mind coming with me?” I ignore the small grumbling in my stomach and decide to take advantage of this opportunity to bond with Titus’ mom. I smile, “Of course!” She intertwines her arm with mine and leads me to her room. It has a sitting area in front of her bedroom, and she tells me, “Sit here, I’ll be right back.” She practically skips into her room and I can’t help but smile from the actions. It’s nice to see her so happy. I sit in the sitting area and look around the room nervously. I notice a portrait in front of me and it looks like it was her and her husband with Titus as a toddler. I stand up and walk towards the portrait getting a better look at it. Titus’ father was a handsome man and Titus looks a lot like him. I think the biggest difference is Titus gets his eye color from his mom meanwhile his dad’s eyes were a dark brown. I hear the door open, and I turn towards Luna Amy and she sets down what she was holding and walks towards me and says, “That’s Titus’ father, Titan. He always wanted a son named after him and I asked if we could do a variation which resulted in Titus.” She touches her mate’s face and she sighs sadly, “There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t miss him.” I nod sympathetically, “I can only imagine how painful losing him was for you.” She wipes her cheeks getting rid of the tears that began to come down her face and she says, “It was very painful. Losing a mate… there’s nothing like it, but I had to stay strong for Titus and for my pack. I have done the best I could to make sure he is ready for the Alpha position. I did not anticipate him to have a mate that’s so…” She hesitates as she tries to think of a way to describe me that wouldn’t offend me and continues, “New to this. I like you a lot, Cali, and I think you compliment my son well. I will be here for you for anything you may need as you are the new Luna.” I grin, “I appreciate that more than you know, Luna Amy.” She smirks and rolls her eyes and touches my arm, “Please, just call me Amy, as of tonight I’m no longer a Luna.” She begins to walk towards the chair and I say, “I think you will always be a Luna to this pack, Amy.” She hugs me with a soft smile on her face and says, “You know, I look forward to our bond growing, Cali, I think that you may be like the daughter I never got to have.” She pulls away from me and I feel tears begin to well up in my eyes. I brush my tears away and watch as Amy unzips a bag and pulls out a gorgeous dress. She said, “This is the dress that I wore to my Luna ceremony. I don’t know how much that my son has told you, but a Luna ceremony is a big deal. It is like a marriage to the pack. I’ve gotten the dress resized and added a few special touches just for you. It would be an honor if you would wear it tonight.” My mouth feels dry as it stays open in shock at the beauty of this dress before me. My eyes meet hers and I smile and nod and answer breathlessly, “I would be honored.” She smiles at me and then at that moment my stomach growls loudly making both of us laugh. She says, “Let’s get you a good breakfast. Would it be okay if I helped you get ready tonight?” I smile as I wrap my arm around hers as we walk out of the room and I answer, “I think that can be arranged, but only if my mother can join us.” She grins, “Sounds like a good idea. I’m dying to talk with Danica more… I’ve never met a real fairy. Not to my knowledge. I would love to learn more about her.” I smile as we walk to the kitchen and I say, “I didn’t know that she was a fairy until recently. She’s always just been my mom and I used to be homeschooled and she honestly has always been my best friend.” Amy grins, “That’s nice.” We make it to the kitchen with ours arms still intertwined and with a smile on each of our faces. I see Titus first and smile as I pull apart from his mom to greet him with a kiss. He looks at me and then at his mom and says, “Where did you two go off to? I was surprised you weren’t getting breakfast.” “Oh I’m starving!” I exclaim and he chuckles as he puts a plate of fresh pancakes in front of me and says, “I figured that’s why I made these.” I moan as I take my first bite and I say, “You’re the best!” He chuckles, but his eyes flicker between me and his mom and he asks, “What were the two of you up to?” I glance towards Amy as she waves her hand dismissing him and says, “Just girl stuff, son, nothing for you to worry about.” She walks to the refrigerator and gets a bottle of water out and passes me one as well and I thank her and she tells Titus, “I’m going to get going there’s still so much work to be done for tonight. If you see Cali’s mother could you please let her know I’m looking for her?” “Yeah, of course, mom.” Titus mutters and he watches as she walks away and he looks over at me with a bewildered look and asks, “What was that about?” I shrug in response, “Just girl stuff.” He chuckles and rolls his eyes and kisses my head before leaving to attend his morning meeting with his Beta and Gamma.
