Thirty | Kane And Esther

We stayed by the lake for a while and honestly, I’m nervous to go back to the main house. My dad will end up telling me what’s going on, Titus explained to me everyone’s uneasiness with my dad, and everyone’s focus is going to be on me, and I don’t like being the center of attention.

I hear Esther whimper in my head, and I chuckle as I ask her: what is it?

I want time with mate.

I huff and nod and look at Titus and say, “Esther really wants to see her mate.”

He nods, “Kane is the same. Don’t try shifting. Let Esther come forward it will give the two of them a chance to actually speak to one another and they’ll shift and take us back to the pack house.”

I nod and say with a smile, “I’ll see you on the other side.”

He nods in agreement and I close my eyes as I focus on my wolf and I let Esther come forward.

I sit in the back of my head and watch the world through her eyes and actions, and I can feel the burning in my cheeks from how wide she is smiling whenever she sees Kane’s dark blue ocean eyes. He grabs her hand and brings it to his lips and says, “Little mate, Esther, it is so nice to finally be officially meeting you.”

“Alpha Kane, it is a pleasure to finally meet my mate.”

“Don’t call me Alpha, Esther.”

She nods her head, and he leans towards her and captures her lips with his. They get in a very heated make out session that makes my body feel like it’s going to explode from all of the passion and tingles that flow throughout my body.

He pulls away and his face is flush, and he says, “Let’s go back to the pack house we have a lot of things that need to be attended to.”

She nods, and I feel as we shift. It is still a little painful to shift but it was nothing compared to the first time.

She looks over at Kane and immediately howls upon seeing his wolf. I swear he is smirking at her for her reaction, and she runs by his side and they take off towards the pack house. When we get there, everyone is waiting on the front porch for us and immediately they stand up on arrival.

Esther gives control back to me instantly and I don’t even think about it before I shift. Suddenly Kane runs up in front of me covering my body as he growls loudly. All of the men around look away and Olive rushes down the steps and brings me a sun dress. I mutter a thank you and put on the dress quickly and look down as I feel my cheeks getting red from embarrassment.

I watch as Kane walks behind a tree and shifts into Titus. He must’ve had clothes stored back there because he walks back out wearing some basketball shorts and a t-shirt. He comes close to me and says softly in my ear, “Please, be more mindful Cali. Kane and I get unbelievably jealous at the thought of any other man looking at our mate’s body in a way that only we should get to do.”

I nod in understand and say, “I’m sorry, I didn’t think.”

He nods and grabs my hand as he leads me towards the house. I see my parents and my mom is smiling at me like she is happy to see me with Titus meanwhile my dad doesn’t meet my gaze. I can tell he is nervous of what’s to come.

Titus looks around at everyone and he addresses the doctor, “Is there anything you’re concerned about with Cali?”

The man shakes his head no, “Since she’s a wolf and is not showing any issues currently I believe that she is completely fine.”

Titus nods and says, “Thank you, doctor, you are dismissed.”

Titus looks towards everyone else: Eric, Olive, Hugh, Britt, his mom, both of my parents, and… a random woman I’ve never met before. I look at Titus and see him frowning and he asks, “Who is she? Why is she here?”

His mom speaks up, “I asked her to come. If we could go somewhere more private for us to all talk?”

Titus nods and he leads the way to the third floor of the pack house and brings us to a large meeting room. He leads the way to the head of the table and pulls out a chair for me to sit. I smile at him and he gives me a very stiff grin and then walks away towards his mom and the unknown woman.

Olive and Britt sit beside me and both offer me comforting smiles, Eric and Hugh take their seats across from us and where they would be on Titus’ other side, and I watch as my parents slowly come and sit beside Britt and they both look at me. I have mixed feeling about my parents, so I nod to acknowledge them, and they nod back.

My eyes flicker towards Titus and I can tell from how tense he looks that he must be upset about something.

Titus

I am furious with my mother. What on earth was she thinking bringing a witch here?

I pull her aside and glare at her because I know that she knows that I’m upset. She sighs and places her hand on my face and asks, “Don’t you have any faith in me, son?”

“What is she doing here?” I ask getting right to the point.

The witch stands beside us and she says, “Alpha, I’m here to help. I am no threat.”

I don’t take my gaze off of my mother and she sighs, “Son, your mate is special. And we know that her father has been fooling around with potions and things to disguise her. I asked for Andrea to come her to check on her and make sure nothing will have any long-term effects.”

I sigh and glance towards Calliope who is looking at me with a concerned expression on her face. I take a deep breath and say, “This is a private meeting. A chance for her father to explain everything. Andrea, I do not want you to sit in. But I am happy to get you a room and we can have you come back later if this is okay for you?”

She nods respectfully, “Of course, Alpha Titus.”

I lead her towards the exit and call for an omega and tell them where to lead her. Once the witch is out, I close the door and lock it then walk back to my place at the head of the table. I hold Cali’s hand in mine, and she smiles at me softly and I say, “The room is soundproof. Anything said in here will be kept in confidence.”

I look towards Cali’s dad and his nervousness is obvious. I say, “Sir? Your name?”

He looks at me and musters out in the proudest voice he could, “Richard.”

I nod, “Okay, Mr. Richard, could you please elaborate on what you meant when you said Calliope is not biologically your daughter?”
