Fifty-Four | To Our Luna

1379 Words
Cal I walk out of room and try the best I can to be confident as I walk out to see our pack members. I take a quick breath before opening the door to head to the back patio and I can sense Titus a few feet behind me. The second I open the door the applause begins, and I look around at our pack feeling slightly overwhelmed but so insanely grateful for this warm welcome that I am receiving. I hear Titus take a breath and I can tell he’s about to address the pack, but I decide that I want to beat him to the punch, so I hold my hand out letting everyone know to settle. Everyone did instantly and I say, “Crescent Moon, I want to thank you for this insanely warm welcome. And I want all of you to know: I know you don’t know me well and I know that you know that I have never been a part of a pack before. I’m going to be honest it can be a little overwhelming.” I chuckle softly feeling nervous and I continue, “My parents did a great job raising me but it was just the three of us and in some ways that was great, but I would be lying if I said that I never dreamed of being a part of a bigger family.” I take a little breath and look around and my eyes fall on my parents who are both smiling at me and my mom gives a small nod for me to continue. I smile, “I was nervous about not being accepted as your Luna because I have never experienced this kind of life before. But seeing you all here tonight and how you have cheered us on I feel fully accepted and I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and us all being united as one big family.” I lick my lips and says, “I never had that, and I never ever would’ve imagined anything like this for my life. I thank you for giving me such a warm welcome and I thank you for accepting me as one of your own. I will do everything in my power to be the best Luna I can be.” I stop speaking and everything is silent for a moment until some voice rings out in the crowd, “To our Luna!” Everyone repeats, “To our Luna!” Applause that is much louder than the original one we got goes through the air. Titus stands by my side and grabs my hand and presses a kiss against it and he yells out, “Let’s get this celebration started!” Titus It’s been an hour since Cali made her speech and she is such a natural at this. I don’t think she even realizes how well that she is doing. She isn’t staying by my side, she’s not running off with her friends or her parents, she is trying to interact with every single person- including the children! I watch as right now she is joining in on a game of kickball with the kids. I sense a presence beside me, and I turn and see my mom and give her a smile. She says, “You know, she’s a natural.” I chuckle and look back at her as she runs to the first base and I say, “She really is.” Soon, a few adults have gathered around watching our Luna in action. Most of the people watching are the parents, but I love hearing the murmurs around me about how great their Luna is. I feel Kade swell with pride and I chuckle softly towards him and say in our link: She’s fantastic. He responds immediately: She’s perfect- a natural Luna. The moon goddess surely blessed us. Suddenly, a little girl slips as she goes to kick the ball and she begins to cry. I see the other adults around me trying to figure out whose kid this is, but Cali rushes towards her and picks her up and immediately begins to soothe her. Kade sighs dreamily in my head: Can you imagine how great she would be with our pups? I smile brightly and watch as a mother rushes towards Cali and Cali waves to the other kids says she’d be back as she walks away with the mom and the little girl and they begin to talk. I shake my head in awe of her and begin to hear more murmurs around me about how great she was with the child. Cal Being around the pack is natural and I now I don’t understand why I was so nervous about doing this. As I’m playing kickball with the kids a young girl comes up to kick the ball and I think she’s the youngest playing the game. I watch as she has a determined look on her face to kick the ball far, but instead she seems to trip on it and she falls to the ground crying. I don’t hesitate to run towards her and pick her up off the ground. She whimpers in my arms and I move her hair off her face and I say, “Hey hon, I’m Cali, what’s your name?” She murmurs, “I’m Alya.” I smile, “Nice to meet you, Alya, now I know you fell, but I need to check you and make sure we’re not bleeding anywhere. Do you mind if I set you down and check you out?” She nods with a little pout still present on her face. Before I can set her down I see a woman running towards us. This must be her mom, but I’m surprised because the little girl in my arms has a dark brown complexion and the woman running towards me is white as can be. They don’t look like they would be related. The woman collects Alya from me and says, “Oh, sweetie, are you okay?” The woman looks up at me and says, “I’m so sorry for disturbing you, Luna.” She bows her head out of respect and I look towards the kids that are waiting to be able to continue their game and I call out, “I’ll be right back!” I walk away with the mother and her child and I say, “You can call me Cali, what’s your name?” She looks me up and down and says, “Rose.” I smile, “Nice to meet you, Rose.” We set Alya down and look her over and once she is deemed good to go she runs off to play with her friends. I ask Rose, “How old is she?” She smiles, “She just turned five. Thank you for watching after her. It’s hard to be everywhere at once and she has a little brother who likes to get into everything.” “Where is he?” I ask looking around and she answers, “One of my friends is turning in early because she’s pregnant and always exhausted.” She says with a giggle before continuing, “She offered to take him for the night so that Alya wouldn’t have to go home early.” I smile, “Sounds like a good friend.” She nods, “She is the best.” I ask, “If you don’t mind me asking, where is the dad at?” She presses her lips together and sighs, “Unfortunately, he passed. He was a human and he got cancer…” “I’m so sorry.” Tears well up in her eyes and she quickly wipes them away and I say, “No, follow me please, let’s go somewhere more private.”
