Sixty-Nine | Second Chance

Alexander Receiving the call from Titus today inviting any of our pack high school seniors to come over for a party was surprising. I would ultimately like to make an alliance with him once I become the Alpha, so I accept his invitation. My sister begged me to go to the mall so that she can pick out a new outfit to wear. The only reason I agreed was because I’ve been meaning to get new shoes anyway. My sister is taking forever so I walk around the mall just looking for something interesting to catch my attention. That’s when I see her- Calliope. She makes me stop in my tracks because I’m caught by her natural beauty. She starts to laugh at something, and I can’t help but smile seeing her so happy. I know that Titus is probably about to join her side and that I should look away because seeing the two of them so happy will hurt my heart, but I can’t seem to turn away from her. That’s when I notice the woman that comes by her side. My eyes widen as Bruce howls excitedly in my head and starts to chant: Mate! Mate! I scold him: You know that Cali isn’t our mate anymore, Bruce. He scoffs at me: Not her, the other one! The moon goddess has blessed us even though you were an i***t! She gave us a second chance. I swear if you mess this up Alexander I will disappear forever. I stare at the girl beside Cali- her blonde locks pulled up into a messy bun, she’s wearing yoga pants that define her curves perfectly, but she wears a long t-shirt that obviously belongs to a boy. It makes me want to growl and rip it off of her. She shouldn’t be wearing anything that belongs to any man other than me! I can’t help but walk towards them because I am dying to hear this girl’s voice. I won’t mess up this time. Cal I was shocked that Titus actually let me go off by myself with Rose, but I was so ecstatic over it. I actually felt like a normal girl again and I haven’t had that feeling in a really long time, so it was so great to feel that way again. Rose keeps making me laugh because so far she hasn’t liked any of her dress options, but a big reason why is because she hasn’t worn a dress since Marcus passed. I think it brings up bad memories of the funeral, so I purposely make sure we avoid black dresses so that she doesn’t think about that day. I can’t help but laugh as she complains, “This is like the third store we’re going to!” “And we’re going to keep going to stores until we find you the perfect outfit.” “Yeah, but I don’t think that I will find any dress I like.” “Well, you don’t have to wear a dress, now come on, chin up!” I grab her arm as she laughs at me, but suddenly she stops making me pull back. I ask, “Everything okay, Rose?” Her eyebrows are furrowed in concentration as she looks around and I watch as she takes a deep breath. She asks, “Do you smell that?” I sniff a little and ask, “Smell what?” “It’s like… eucalyptus and pine.” The scent she’s describing reminds me of Alexander but being in the mall scents are so mixed together it’s hard to focus on just one. Suddenly, I smell his scent to and I turn to see him walking towards us, his eyes completely focused on Rose. He smiles as he says, “Hi, I’m Alexander.” He sticks his hand out to shake hers and she looks at his hand and then back at his face and brings her hand out to shake his as she says softly, “I’m Rose.” His smile seems to get even bigger as he says, “It is so, so great to meet you, Rose.” She nods slowly, but I can see guilt building in her eyes and I mind link with her and ask: Are you okay? Even in her mind it sounds like she’s on the brink of tears: He’s my second chance mate. I look at him and he has yet to take his eyes off of hers and he asks, “Can I buy you a coffee and we can talk?” She lets out a shuddery breath and asks softly, “What’s your last name and what pack are you from?” He smiles as he answer confidently, but in a quiet tone so that humans wouldn’t hear us, “Stone and I’m the upcoming Alpha of the Starry Shadows pack.” She nods and takes a quick breath and says, “I, Rose Jones of the Crescent Moon pack, reject-” Panic fills Alexander’s eyes and mine and we both yell, “NO!” We both cover her mouth and Alexander looks at me and then at her with a panicked expression and my heart aches for him. I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like if Titus had rejected me the moment that he saw me. He asks, “C-can w-we uh go somewhere?” I nod, “That’s a good idea. How about we go to the car?” Rose nods nervously and we all walk to our car and her head is down the whole way we walk there like she is ashamed of what she almost did. Rose and I get in the front seats while Alexander gets in the back. It’s silent. It’s awkward. I link Rose: Why would you reject him? She sighs through the link and responds: It’s only been a few months since Marcus died. I’m not ready to move on. It’s not right for me to drag Alexander along for who knows how long while I grief. I speak out of the link and snap at her, “The moon goddess blessed you with him! Are you really going to turn him down without knowing anything about him?” Alexander looks between the two of us confused by my sudden outburst. He presses his lips together as he seems to be thinking out the next step to take. Then he asks a question that shocks us both, “Am I your second chance mate? Because you’re mine.”
