Titus:
Calliope ends up falling asleep on my chest. My wolf is purring at the constant contact with our mate.
I open a mind link between everyone and ask: Olive, Britt, she doesn’t know about werewolves?
Britt’s voice comes back: No Alpha, but we have a suspicion that her dad might be part wolf or something else supernatural.
My eyebrows furrow surprised by that fact and I ask: Why do you think that?
There’s hesitation and after a minute of silence Olive answers: Something about his scent is off… it’s not just human’s. Her mom has always had a human scent and the same for Cal. But like… smell around here. It’s full of chemicals it’s hard to be here for long periods of time due to how strong it is. It’s especially like this when her dad is home, I think he’s trying to hide something.
I take a deep breath and I recognize what she’s talking about. The only reason I think any of us are able to tolerate it is because we are each with our mates and are basking in the scent of them.
I look down at Calliope she looks so peaceful and with the way her head is lulled to the side it gives me perfect access to her neck. I feel my fangs elongate in anticipation and I close my eyes and take deep breaths to calm myself down. That is not the way I want her to find out about me or about our kind.
The interesting thing is this town is primarily made up of werewolves. It has our pack, Crescent Moon, which is one of the biggest packs in North America and it also has the Starry Shadow pack near it. The number of humans in this town is very small and for my mate to be one just seems incredibly rare. If her dad is a werewolf I wonder if he knew he was so close to two different pack territories and if he did know then why didn’t he try to join a pack?
It all just seems very suspicious.
Cal begins to stir in her sleep and I gently stroke her face and her face brightens up with a smile as she snuggles closer to me. I feel like my heart is going to beat out of my chest at the close proximity when I hear Eric’s voice through the mind link: Hey Titus, your mom wants to know where we are and why you aren’t picking up your phone and why your link is blocked.
I resist the urge to roll my eyes. My mom is overprotective at times and can still treat me like a ten-year-old that needs someone to watch their every move. I answer: Tell her that I met my mate and that we will be home sometime tomorrow, and I will explain everything to her then.
I look over at Eric nodding as he texts, and I see Hugh lean over to watch as they wait for my mom’s reply. They both chuckle softly and Hugh responds through the mind link: Your mom says if you don’t bring her home then she will come find us now and to remember she is one of the best trackers in the pack.
I groan as I lift my head to the ceiling in frustration I respond: Tell her she’s human… if she shows up out of nowhere, she could ruin everything.
The boys nod and I let them handle the situation as I enjoy my mate being in my arms and relax as I fall asleep.
Cal:
The morning comes way too fast. I wake up and look around and realize I had fallen asleep on Titus for the whole night. And to be honest… it was the best night sleep I have gotten since before Alex and I were together.
Olive and Eric had fallen asleep on the loveseat and Britt and Hugh at some point made a pallet on the floor and fell asleep there. I look towards Titus and without thinking I put my hand on his cheek as I stroke his face. His eyes flutter open and he looks at me and smiles.
I know I’m blushing because I got caught staring, but I can’t get myself to turn away from him.
He says, “You know… I could get used to this.”
I smile and look down and I feel him move and I glance up and see him looking around and he whispers, “Hey, do you want to go grab some breakfast?”
I nod, and we leave the others behind as we go to his car.
He opens the passenger door for me and waits till I’m seated before closing it before rushing around to his side. I smile at him thinking about how no one has ever opened the car door for me before.
He drives us to Starbucks first and tells me that he needs to know my favorite drink and I tell him that I would like a Grande caramel Frappuccino with nonfat milk, no whip, a shot of espresso, and extra caramel drizzle.
I am shocked when he repeated the whole thing to the cashier without any issues. I listen to his drink order wanting to commit it to memory and I’m surprised that he just asks for a Venti Blonde coffee black. I scrunch my nose at the thought of drinking something so bitter but whatever floats his boat. I’m kind of glad it’s simple so it’s something that I can surprise him with on occasion. After getting our drinks he drives us to the nearest donut shop and orders more than enough for everyone. Once we get everything settled in the car, he takes my hand in his and gives it a light squeeze. I smile at his gesture and sip on my drink, and we are about five minutes from the house when he states, “I like you, Cali.”
My eyebrows raise up in surprise and I turn towards him and he glances at me and chuckles, “It’s not that much of a surprise is it? I mean we kissed last night and fell asleep together.”
“So-sorry I just wasn’t expecting you to say that.”
“Is there an issue with me saying that?”
I shake my head no and hesitate to ask my question, but I know I need to know the answer before we pursue this any further. I ask, “What about Haley?”
His face scrunches up in what I believe is disgust and he asks, “What about her?”
“Well, aren’t you two like an item?” I ask because to me it seemed obvious. She’s been all over him lately.
It sounds like he is growling in frustration and I turn towards him puzzled by his reaction. He huffs, “No, not at all. And just to be clear I would never kiss someone if I was in a serious relationship with someone else. You are the only person I’m interested in, Calliope.”
I wince slightly from him using my full name and he sighs, “Sorry, Cali.”
I smile, “It’s fine, Titus, so just to be clear… are you asking me out on a date?”
“Yes, but more than that too. Cali, I would like you to be my girlfriend.”
I look at him in shock and he smiles as he parks the car and turns towards me and asks, “What do you say?”
He makes me feel so at ease and so drawn to him that I want to say yes without any reservations, but to be honest I’m terrified of getting hurt again.
I sigh, “I really want to say yes.”
“But?”
“If I do…” I trail off feeling really conflicted especially when he is staring at me with the cutest pout and puppy dog eyes I’ve ever seen. I continue, “Could we take things slow? I’ve been hurt before and I just don’t want that to happen again.”
He nods in agreement and holds my hand and says, “Cali, I promise I will go as slow as you want. I am just honored that you are saying yes to being mine- my girlfriend so soon!”
He corrected himself from saying mine to my. I wonder why. I mean I’m pretty easy going I wasn’t going to correct him for calling me his as if I was a piece of property. I can tell by the way that he looks at me that I mean so much to him.
He leans forward and gives me the softest kiss before we go inside to see the others.
