Titus
I wasn’t planning on going out with Cal again so soon. I was going to just see her at school tomorrow, but I would like to go into school with her by my side and we aren’t close enough for me to do that.
My mom didn’t care that I was skipping out on dinner because I was going to be with my mate, and she knew the more time I spent with her the more likely I will bring her home sooner. My mom was overly excited at the possibility of having another girl around, especially a girl that she wanted to look at like a daughter.
I walk up to Cal’s front door with a bouquet of sunflowers in my hand. I picked sunflowers for two reasons, one, I didn’t want to get the basic bouquet of red roses I wanted to be unique. And two, sunflowers always lean toward the sun and she is like my sun and I will always lean towards her. I know that I can’t explain that to her this early because it would seem unusual, but I needed to give something to her with meaning and since I don’t know what her favorite flower is so this will have to do.
I knock the on the door and after a moment the door opens up revealing Cal’s smiling face. I brighten up seeing her and she says, “Oh, Titus, you didn’t have to get me those.”
I nod, “Yeah, I did. What kind of boyfriend doesn’t bring his girl flowers?”
She takes them from me and motions for me to follow her as she goes to find a vase from them. She says, “Well, no one’s ever given me flowers before.”
My eyebrows raise in surprise. She said she had a relationship before I can’t imagine that the guy would never buy her flowers. I ask without thinking, “Weren’t you in a relationship?”
Her eyes flicker and meet mine and she nods, “I was. But um… he wasn’t big on showing me much affection.”
I mutter, “Sounds like a jerk.”
She chuckles at my comment and I’m happy that I’m able to help make light of the situation. I ask, “Do I know the guy?”
Her body stiffens, and she puts the flowers in the vase and comes and grabs my hand and says with a smile, “Let’s get going.”
I nod and lead her out to the car. I’m getting concerned because she won’t tell me who this guy is. I just hope I’m not like close friends with him or anything. Because if I was and he did anything to hurt her I will end him.
Cal
Titus leads me out to the car and starts to drive. I feel butterflies in my stomach with excitement for whatever he could have planned for us. He’s gotten quiet since I didn’t answer who my ex was. I just don’t want there to be any weird tension at school because he feels like he needs to defend my honor or something.
Alexander and I are in the past and I don't want to focus on him for no reason. I want to focus on Titus and what the two of us can have together.
It's been at least ten minutes of us driving before I look towards him and ask, “So, what’s the plan for tonight?”
He grins, “It’s a surprise.”
I huff and cross my arms and he looks over at me with an amused expression as he says, “What is it?”
I roll my eyes, “I hate surprises. They always turn out bad.”
His eyebrows scrunch together, and he says, “Well, this is a good one.”
I retort, “No such thing.”
He chuckles and asks, “Are you always this much of a pessimist?”
I smirk at the question and answer, “I’m not a pessimist. I’m a skeptic… I’ve been let down a lot and I don’t want to start this relationship off with being let down.”
He parks and looks at me curiously and says, “I will never let you down, Cali.”
“You can’t promise me that.” I grumble.
He rolls his eyes and gets out of the car and comes to my side and opens my door and holds his hand out for me and says, “Come on.”
I glance behind him and all I see is a wooded area. Suddenly, I feel like he brought me out here to do something sinister. I try to mask my worry with a joke and say, “What? Did you bring me here to kill me?”
He laughs and says, “This is my family’s property.” His eyes meet mine and I feel like he immediately could feel my worry. His eyes soften as he tries to reassure me, “Trust me, Cali, nothing bad is going to happen and everyone knows to leave us alone.”
I nod in understanding as I follow him to a small clearing. There’s a lake beside it with a small waterfall. Next to the lake is a big picnic set up there’s a big blanket on the ground with the picnic basket, there’s sunflowers decorating the whole scene, and some lanterns and some tea light candles. I look at Titus and he’s grinning at me and asks, “Do you like it?”
I laugh and nod, “Yeah, this is gorgeous, Titus.”
“See? Not all surprises are bad.”
I nod, “I suppose you’re right.”
We sit down at the blanket and I ask, “So, you said this is your family’s property?”
He nods, “We have a pretty big family, so my parents bought a big piece of land and everyone built their own houses.”
“Oh, that’s neat!”
He smiles and nods, but I feel like he’s being just too polite, I guess. I don’t know it just seems like he is holding something back from me. The sun begins to set, and I sigh feeling so content. I don’t think things could get any better than this.
