Seventy | I Was His Mate

1146 Words
Alexander Rose Jones. Her name makes Bruce purr and makes me feel just really happy. I can’t believe that the moon goddess blessed me with a second mate and this time I’m going to make sure that no matter what my dad says or thinks I’m not going to let her go. She asks for my last name and what pack I’m from and I tell her immediately hoping that it will please her and I can’t help, but think of how good her first name sounds with mine: Rose Stone. It has a great ring to it. My heart begins to crumble when I hear her say, “I, Rose Jones, of the Crescent Moon pack, reject-” I panic and yell as I cover her mouth, “NO!” I notice another hand covering her mouth and I look over at Cali and see her looking equally shocked. Talking to Rose I completely forgot that Cali was even here. I stutter when I ask, “C-can w-we go somewhere?” I’m so terrified to lose my mate again. Although, I guess that would be just the punishment that the moon goddess had in mind for me. I rejected my mate and now my new mate rejects me- seems fitting. We get into the girl’s car and I sit in the back seat and notice that their eyes are glazed over so I know they’re mind linking. I stay quiet, hoping that Cali is convincing her to give me a shot. My eyes widen when Cali says, “The moon goddess blessed you with him! Are you really going to turn him down without knowing anything about him?” Rose’s eyes look between me and Cali and I sigh as I try to think if I should ask what I’m thinking, but I’m pretty sure that I’m a second chance for her too. I finally decide to be brave and ask, “Am I your second chance mate? Because you’re mine.” Both of the girls look at me in shock and I notice Cal’s eyebrows furrow in confusion and then Rose asks in a soft timid voice that makes my wolf purr, “Did your mate die too?” The question surprises me and my eyes flicker to Calliope. The girl who has no idea that she was my mate and I just have a gut feeling that this isn’t going to end well. I shake my head no and I say in a low voice, “I rejected her.” Rose immediately asks, “Why?” Cal asks, “Who?” My eyes meet Rose’s who looks so concerned for me and then my eyes flicker to Cal who is wanting to hear my answer. I let out a shuddery breath, “My father made me. I was mated to… a human… and he told me that he would not pass down the Alpha title unless I rejected her.” Rose seems sympathetic and conflicted and I’m grateful she’s not getting angry with me. Cal stares at me with a hard glare and she says with her Luna tone laced in her voice, “Out of the car, now.” I know better than to deny her request. She gets out of the car, slamming the door shut behind her, and I look at Rose and say, “I promise, I will explain everything to you. Just please don’t reject me yet. Please, just give me a shot.” She looks me up and down and nods. Her eyes glance out the window where she sees that Cali has walked near the tree line about 15 feet away. She says, “I won’t, but go speak with the Luna please. She seems really upset.” I nod and get out of the car and brace myself for Calliope’s wrath. Cal I was his mate. He rejected me. How could he reject me and I not even know it? I was his girlfriend for two years and I ended up being his mate and he didn’t even fight for me. He gets out of the car and walks towards me with his hands in his pockets and he says, “Thanks for um, stopping her from rejecting me, Cal.” My voice cracks when I say, “I was your mate.” He looks at me and he nods slowly and I feel like my heart breaks a little more from the way that he broke me. I take a deep breath and ask, “Why?” “I already told you two why… I thought you were a human and my dad wouldn’t give me the Alpha title if I stayed with you.” I scoff, “You didn’t even fight for me and I was supposed to be your mate!” He sighs, “I thought you were a human, Cal, if I knew you were a wolf I never would’ve rejected you!” I scoff with tears coming up in my eyes, “Is that supposed to make me feel better? Because I didn’t have a wolf that made me not be enough for you! Why the hell did you waste two years of my life? Was it just so you could f**k me?!” “No, of course not!” “Then why, Alexander? I don’t understand it. It doesn’t matter because you have a new mate and so do I, but God, do you know how bad you hurt me? Do you know how worthless you make me feel?!” “You are not worthless!” He attempts to reassure me and I yell back, “The only reason you were with me was so that you could waste my time and get to have s*x with me anytime you wanted! You never loved me.” “Of course I did, more than anything!” He argues. I snap, “Obviously not more than your Alpha title!” We are both huffing for air and are frustrated from the situation. Both of us completely fixated on one another. Then suddenly I feel something hit me, like a dart. Spots fill my vision and I fall to the ground. I will my body to move and I try to link Rose, Titus, anyone! But my link won’t work, and I can’t connect to Esther. I feel myself getting dragged along the ground and everything is so black I have no choice but to succumb to the darkness.
