Twenty-Nine | Forever?

Titus I sit on my knees in front of Cali, and I felt like I stopped breathing for a moment when I watched her shift. When she was fully in her wolf form her wolf lied on the ground with its face resting on its paws and its eyes are closed. I hear my mom gasp loudly, but I don’t even look towards her. I can’t tear my eyes away from my beautiful mate. She is a gorgeous wolf. I have never seen a wolf with this kind of silver coat. I want to touch her fur, but I resist the urge because I don’t want to startle her. I want to trace the perfect white diamond on her head. Overall, she’s just stunning. Suddenly, her eyes open and I feel like my heart skipped a beat when I see her amethyst-colored eyes. Her wolf stares at me and I feel entranced by her gaze. I reach my hand out and ask her, “Can I?” Her head bobs up and down and I scooch closer to her and begin to stroke her fur. Her wolf sits tall as if she already knows how beautiful she is and is proud of her appearance. I begin to scratch behind her ear, and this must’ve made her happy because she licks my face. I chuckle at her, but I don’t mind. I hear laughter behind us, and I watch as her eyes flicker towards the others and her posture changes slightly showing her apprehension of our company. I pat her head trying to get her to focus back on me and I can’t help but smile when she looks at me and visibly relaxes. I tell her, “I’m going to shift and we’re going to go for a run, okay, Cali? And soon you can tell me your wolf’s name. Since you are not officially part of the pack and we haven’t marked yet I don’t have a mind link to you. So, please don’t get out of my sight on our run.” Her wolf nods at me eagerly and I smile as I allow myself to transition. The moment I’m in my wolf form I allow Kane to take primary control so he can bond with her wolf. I watch as she begins to pant and then she lets out a little howl before prancing around me happily. Kane surprises me when he howls after her and then nudges her snout with her own. He nods towards the path he’s going to lead her down and begins to run. He listens to her footsteps and looks back at her every few minutes to make sure she’s able to keep up with him. She’s always right on his heels. She is honestly a very big wolf for a girl. She’s a big wolf in general she’s right about my size and I’m larger than the normal wolf because I’m an Alpha. Her dad said she wasn’t biologically his, so it makes me wonder if maybe she has some Alpha blood in her. I lead her out to the waterfall where I took her on our first date. I go behind a tree and shift and put on a pair of basketball shorts. I walk back out to her wolf and I hold a shirt and tell her, “Come on, Cali, shift back and let’s talk.” Her wolf looks me up and down and I come closer to her and pet her head and say, “We’ll be running back together, and I’d like to learn your name, little wolf. My wolf’s name is Kane.” I saw her eyes darken into a deeper purple at the sound of my wolf’s name. I watch as she closes her eyes and focuses on shifting. Calliope gasps as she gets back in her human form. As much as I want to stare at her body, I look away to give her privacy and say, “Here princess, wear this shirt.” She takes the shirt from me and after putting it on she says, “You can look at me now.” I look at her and can’t help the smile that goes from ear to ear. She begins to blush from my gaze, and she looks at the water and smiles, “I like that you stopped here for our first run.” I ask, “How are you feeling?” “Um, sore… but it’s liberating. Just tell me… it does get easier to shift, right?” I laugh and nod, “Yes, yes, it does. You’ll notice the difference when you shift for us to run back to the packhouse.” She nods and I ask, “What’s your wolf’s name?” She grins, “Her name is Esther.” I can hear Kane purring in my head at the sound of his mate’s name. Cali looks at me with a smirk and asks, “Is your wolf swooning over its mate’s name as well?” I laugh, “Yes, yes, it is.” She laughs softly and looks towards the lake and asks, “How cold do you think it is?” “Well, we’re about to be in November so it’s going to be chilly, but if you shifted into your wolf, I think it would be fine. They can stand the cold a bit better than we can.” She nods and I can see from her posture that she’s overthinking right now. I ask, “Are you okay, Cali?” “My parents aren’t my parents, Titus. This has been the most liberating and the most terrifying day of my life. Honestly, I’m scared to learn the truth.” I walk to her and wrap my arms around her, and she hugs me back and I can feel the wetness from her tears in my shirt. I pet her hair and say, “It’ll be okay, Cali. I’m here for you.” She looks up at me and says, “For forever, right? We’re mates and you accept me, and I accept you?” I smile from her question and I nod, “Forever, Cali.” I kiss her softly and she kisses me back and it’s full of so much love. She pulls away from me and rests against my chest and sighs heavily and says, “I’m glad you’re my mate, Titus.” I nod, “I’m blessed that you’re my mate, Calliope.”
