Twenty-Eight | Accept The Change

1455 Words
Cali This time when the darkness overtook my vision, I was still able to hear what was going on around me and I was fighting to get back to myself. To get back to my mate. He is constantly whispering sweet reassurances to me and is touching my arm, my hair, my face… I sensed when he moved away from me immediately and it made me whimper. Unfortunately, no one can hear me as I’m lost in this dark abyss. I can hear people yelling at my father… calling him a rogue and saying to restrain him. My heart swells with love and pride when I hear Titus say, “Stop, it’s Cali’s dad. We will not restrain him not until we learn more information and see if he’s actually a threat.” After a moment I feel another hand on me and I know that it’s my dad trying to comfort me. It’s almost like I can feel his and my mom’s desperation for me to wake up and tell them what’s happening. The only thing I know is that I need to trust the moon goddess and trust in my wolf. I take a deep breath as I remember Esther and her beautiful fur and her stunning eyes. I need to become one with her. What finally breaks me through the darkness is when I hear my dad say, “Because Cali is not biologically either of ours.” My eyes pop open and my jaw drops open as I stare at the man who I have always considered my father. My mom notices me first as my father is staring at my mate and my mom touches my cheek and says, “Oh sweetheart, are you okay? What’s going on with you?” The words slip through my lips so quietly that I’m surprised anyone could hear me, “I’m not your daughter.” My mom looks at me confused and asks, “What did you say, Cal?” My dad’s eyes meet mine and he sighs, “You heard.” I forgot. He’s apparently a wolf. Everyone in here that is a wolf could hear my statement. I nod slowly and quickly wince from the pain shooting through my body. I force myself to breathe out and to stay conscious. Titus strokes my face and I feel the tingles run down my face and I look towards him and breathe out slowly and force myself to speak, “I’m a wolf. I’m shifting and I don’t know what to do to accept it. But my wolf is ready and I’m ready to meet her.” Titus looks at me and the love in his eyes is so evident and it feels like such an intimate moment between us and it gets interrupted when his mom asks, “How do you know? How are you sure?” I feel another sharp pain go through my body and I hiss in pain then I gasp out, “I. Met. The moon goddess.” I take a deep breath after forcing that sentence out, but I notice Titus’ eyebrows furrow in confusion, but he picks me up bridal style and begins to walk out of the room. As he walks out, he says, “I’m taking you outside. I believe the transition is easier whenever you’re out in nature. When you shift your wolf will want to go for a run. As your mate and assuming you accept me your future Alpha, I will escort you on your first run.” I force myself to smile as I play with his hair and say, “Why wouldn’t I accept you?” The smile he gives me makes the butterflies in my stomach erupt. We get outside and he slowly sets me down. The gentleness in his actions is so evident as he treats me like a porcelain doll that he is terrified to break. He sits on his knees in front of me and says, “Cali, when I shifted for the first time, I found it easier to accept the transition when I kneeled on my hands and knees.” I nod in understanding and get in the position mimicking his actions. I let out a shuddery breath as I feel the pain that is so intense it makes me want to crumble to the ground. I feel Titus’ hand on my cheek as he makes me look at him and reassures me, “You’ve got this, Cali. You’re strong and you can do it.” I nod in understanding and he says, “Try to picture everything. Imagine your face elongating for your snout, imagine your paws and how it will feel against the dirt, imagine having a tail… just imagine everything you can about being a wolf.” I nod in understanding. He doesn’t understand how easy it is for me to imagine it because I know exactly what my wolf looks like. I picture her silver fur and how soft it was, the diamond shape in her forehead, her captivating amethyst eyes… slowly I feel my face beginning to shift. I groan in pain, but I hear Esther’s soothing voice, “Accept the change, Cali. It will make it easier on both of us.” I gasp in pain and I feel tears begin to run down my face. I can faintly hear Titus reassuring me, “That’s it, Cali, you’ve got this. Keep pushing forward!” I hear Esther’s voice exclaim, “Mate!” I gulp and respond back to her, “Yeah, that’s mate. Come on, girl, come forward and meet him.” I feel pressure in my head and in the rest of my body and it’s so much I want to let the darkness take over again. I hear Esther bark in my head, and she says harshly, “Don’t you dare blackout, Cali. I’ve waited so long to meet mate. Let go of the reins, Cali. You’re still trying to remain in control. Trust in me and let me take the reins.” I nod as I gasp and feel my mind get put in the backseat as Esther pushing forward. Quickly the rest of my body shifts and it’s such a weird feeling being in the backseat of my head. Esther’s/ my eyes are closed so I can’t see what’s going on, but I hear her voice as she reassures me, “Give me a moment, Cali. We’re fine. You did awesome. Just let me rest for a second and then we’ll get up and go for a run with our mate.” My cheeks get sore as I smile and I say, “Thanks for being such a great wolf, Esther.” I can feel her feeling proud at my comment. Suddenly she opens our eyes and immediately they land on Titus who is sitting on his knees in front of us. He looks in awe of us and I’m not surprised I know that Esther is a stunning wolf. He reaches his hand out and asks, “Can I?” Esther nods our head, and he pets us and scratches behind her ear which made her very happy, so she licked his face. At this moment we seem to notice everyone else around us as they all laughed at her actions. I can feel Esther’s apprehension of all the people surrounding her. Titus pats the top of her head and she looks towards him and he says, “I’m going to shift and we’re going to go for a run, okay, Cali? And soon you can tell me your wolf’s name. Since you are not officially part of the pack and we haven’t marked yet I don’t have a mind link to you. So, please don’t get out of my sight on our run.” Esther nods eagerly and I watch as Titus shifts into his gorgeous brown and white tipped wolf. Esther’s mouth opens as she pants, and she lets out a little howl enjoying the sight of our mate. I know that this is going to be one fun run.
